Fears of an economic downturn continue to prevail in Sweden after the number of jobs advertised on the internet dropped for the fifth month in succession, according to figures from Monster Employment Index Sweden.

The index fell by 19 points in July with a drop in job ads most apparent in southern parts of Sweden.

The administrative job sector suffered the heaviest losses, although the number of vacancies fell for almost all sectors and job descriptions.

"It was expected that the number of job opportunities advertised online would fall during the holiday months, but the index has now fallen five months in a row. This is a result of a cool off in the economic climate," said Carl Silverstolp, CEO of Monster Scandinavia in a statement.
