A couple charged with raping and torturing a woman over a period of several days claim their 'victim' was a willing participant in the sex games.

The couple, as well as a third suspect, are due in the Malmö district court on Friday.

According to a report in Sydsvenskan newspaper, the woman was kidnapped from her apartment on Kantatgatan in Malmö in May, and held captive for three days by the main suspect, a 50-year-old man.

He subjected her to sexual torture games, including pouring melting wax over her body and forcing her to satisfy his sexual desires. She was held for up to three days at a time on repeated occasions, and sexually abused in a ritual manner. The number of bruises sustained by the victim suggest some kind of physical attack.

However, there is no concrete evidence otherwise as there are no direct witnesses or photographic evidence.

The 50-year-old suspect has a previous conviction for murder and has contacts within criminal motorcycle gangs in Sweden. He claims to have sexual fantasies where he himself is punished and whipped. The man claims that he forced the kidnapped woman to dress him in women's clothes, and to whip and stamp upon him.

Police found three axes, handcuffs, a riding whip and a leash in the suspect's apartment.

After three days of being sexually tortured, the woman managed to escape, only to be forced back into the apartment a day later. After making another escape, she was brought back for the third time and made to sign a contract that she was the 50-year-old's slave.

A 42-year-old woman is also being charged with forcing the victim to withdraw cash and then hand over up to 6,000 kronor ($360). She is also charged with assisting during another kidnapping that took place later in May, when she and the 50-year-old took the victim to a forest outside Malmö where the victim was tied up, humiliated and whipped.

In her court summons, chief prosecutor Lena Körner described the woman's ordeal as a case of abuse akin to torture.
