A 35-year-old woman believed to be at the centre of a major Gothenburg prostitution operation has been arrested on suspicions of pimping.

On Monday police raided the apartment where the woman was residing, in which they found a large sum of money.

When the woman's remand hearing is held around lunchtime on Tuesday, deputy head prosecutor Thomas Ahlstrand will request that the court sequester up to 100,000 kronor ($14,800) of the woman's money – money which she is believed to have earned primarily through street prostitution as well as through sex trade run out of different clubs, writes the newspaper Metro.

It remains unclear whether there was a head office or base of operations for the activities.
