A man suffered life-threatening injuries following a shooting in the Stockholm suburb of Rinkeby.

The shooting took place shortly after 2:00am on Wednesday morning, and an ambulance made it to the scene quickly following reports called in from nearby witnesses.

According to the police, the victim is a man in his forties.

He is now receiving care at Karolinksa University hospital.

“He's in really bad shape,” said police spokesperson Jens Wismar to the TT news agency.

Police questioned witnesses overnight and checked cars which had been seen near the crime scene.

“We're looking for several perpetrators; we think it involves at least two. They are suspected of attempted murder,” said Wismar.

The injured man is known to police, who nevertheless don't suspect that the shooting is related to criminal gang activity.

Nor were the police aware of any previous threats against the man.
