Bildt 'alarmed' by North Korea nuke test

Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt on Monday described North Korea's nuclear test as "alarming", denouncing its decision to invest in nuclear technology rather than helping its poverty-stricken people.

"It is alarming that the North Korean regime continues to provoke the international community," Bildt said in a statement.

"In a poor and oppressed society, the very closed regime is spending enormous resources on these increasingly serious provocations," he said.

"There is every reason to fear that efforts to combat the growing economic and social problems in North Korea will now become even more difficult," Bildt added.
