Gothenburg court convicts trio for heroin smuggling

Three men have been convicted and given lengthy prison sentences for their roles in a heroin smuggling operation.

The smuggling came to light when officials discovered six kilogrammes of heroin hidden in the side panel of a car.

A 32-year-old man who paid for the drugs and who had organized earlier smuggling operations was sentenced by the Gothenburg District Court to 12 and half years in prison.

Two other men each received ten-year prison sentences.

Police uncovered the smuggling by monitoring a large number of telephone conversations.

The 32-year-old claimed in his defence that the conversations recorded by police during the wiretapping operation were only about selling a car on the black-market, writes the Göteborgs-Posten newspaper.
