The hapless thief took his chance to make off with the caravan parked at Billingsluttningen in Skövde by connecting it to the back of his car, according to Sveriges Radio Skaraborg.

But little did he know that he was also taking the caravan's owner along for an impromptu nightime drive.

The thief discovered his unwelcome booty only after making his getaway, when he pulled over and attempted to force entry into the mobile home.

The caravan's owner, who had been abruptly woken from his slumber when his holiday abode had been fastened to the thief's car, then screamed at the would-be intruder.

The resultant shock was enough to persuade the thief to flee the scene, empty-handed.

Story continues below…

Skövde police have been supplied with a full report of the incident and have classified the crime as attempted theft and endangerment.

I'm waiting in anticipation of the follow up article where the thief successfully sues the caravan owner for the stress caused by the shock of him screaming at him and gets off ant theft charge ;)

Sad thing is, I could really see that happening.

It could only happen in Sweden.

One very dumb thief.

.........and the honest guy possibly getting sued.

I was under the impression that successfully sueing was as rare as chooks teeth in Sweden.

Well in Sweden if it is the criminal trying to sue, they tend to win, but if someone is suing for a real reason, the courts tend to dismiss it...

Good story I thought! Crminal act but with a comedy value..........this is journalism.

The story about cost cutting in the police by closing toilets was probably one of the most mundane, boring bit of nothingness jounalism ever! In this day and age, there must be some real news out there....even in a small country as this!

Do you have any stats? Or numbers to back this claim up, or are you being sarcastic?

Also, "Mr. Sprat," I recall that in the US, there once was a show called, "Americas Dumbest Criminals." Also, the owner of the caravan is not going to be sued.

Seems the holiday weekend hasn't done much for one guys sense of humour.

Stuck in a traffic jam maybe?

So why you connect me with the USA,you seem a tad confused, too much vodka perhaps?
