A three-year-old boy was rushed to hospital at lunchtime on Tuesday after falling from a fourth floor balcony in Borås in western Sweden.

"There was an ambulance nearby that took the boy to hospital in Borås," police spokesman Thomas Fuxborg told news agency TT.

An air ambulance has been ordered for transportation of the boy to another hospital.

The three-year-old was examined at 1pm by doctors at Södra Älvsborg hospital in Borås.

"It's too early to say how serious his injuries are but his condition is not life-threatening," said hospital spokeswoman Charlotte Ader.
