Police in Jönköping in central Sweden are investigating a potential murder in the city centre on Friday night.

“We have a murder here and that is all that I am going to say,” police commander Lars Johansson told TT.

He received news of the incident just before 4 am.

“We have just gotten started with the investigation and have called in national authorities to help. So at the present I am not saying anything else,” Johansson said around 5 am.

Police received a call about an assault in the eastern part of Jönköping around 3 am. They found a man at the scene, who was taken to the hospital by ambulance but then proclaimed dead.

Technicians and the medical examiner have been called in along with other investigators, according to police.

On Saturday morning, police had not yet identified the victim and no one had been arrested for the incident.
