Three people were taken to hospital after being hit by a car in what police believe was a murder attempt connected to a feud between rival gangs in Västerås in central Sweden.

Police were called at 2.30am on Thursday morning about a large brawl underway on Blomstergatan between different gangs.

The disturbance ended with one person getting in a car and driving straight into three others, all of whom sustained injuries to their legs.

One of the victims was also then punched in the face by the driver.

“The driver is suspected of attempted murder but has not yet been arrested. But we have a name. Thankfully, no one was seriously injured,” said Västerås police spokesperson Ann-Charlotte Israelsson.

A 16-year-old also present in the car was arrested on suspicion of having robbed a person on Humlegatan earlier in the evening.

In that incident, two younger men were robbed of various items, including a mobile telephone.

When one of them tried to take the phone back, he was hit and then dragged behind the car until the vehicle stopped and he was released.

The man’s injuries were said to be minor.

At the time of the theft, there were three people in the car, one of which was a female.
