The woman's body was found by a relative near the family’s home in Sjöbo in Skåne at about 11.30pm.
According to police, the 19-year-old’s body showed signs of being subjected to violence.
“We can say that the woman has been killed,” said Skåne police spokesperson Erik Jeppsson to the TT news agency.
Jeppsson explained further, however, that police still don’t know who took the woman’s life or why.
“It’s not possible to speak out about what’s happened. Unfortunately there’s no more information to give at this point. We’ll simply have to wait and see what the forensic technicians and medical examiner find,” he said.
A technical investigation of the crime scene is expected to continue throughout the day, as are additional police interviews with relatives of the 19-year-old victim.
According to the Aftonbladet newspaper, the victim's family had reported the 19-year-old missing earlier in the day on Monday.
Police were on their way to the family’s house to gather information pertaining to the missing person report when a relative discovered the 19-year-old’s body in a storage space connected to the house.
