An 18-year-old robber caught an unusual case of the Christmas spirit on Wednesday night, turning himself in to the police in Västervik on Sweden’s east coast.

The young assailant called police when he experienced pangs of guilt after holding up a kiosk with an object that appeared to be a gun. He attempted to obtain money by threatening the cashier, but a witness intervened and the 18-year-old fled from the scene.

The robber then called the police and reported himself.

“We just had to go and get him,” the commander on duty for the Kalmar police told TT news agency.

The 18-year-old man is now in custody on suspicion of aggravated robbery.
