Swedes have renewed hope in their country's economic development, a new survey revealed on Monday.

In particular, the belief that the private economy will be better has increased, the Swedish Quality Index (Svenskt Kvalitetsindex, SKI) said.

"Many major institutions, such as the government and the Riksbank [central bank], have made mention of the Swedish economy in very positive terms - that influence people's expectations for the future," said Johan Parmler, president of the Swedish Quality Index.

Men expressed more confidence than women above all else that their personal finances will be better. However, those under 29 suggested their financial situation is bleaker than ever.

"Young people have always been most supportive of the general economy, but there has been a trend reversal," said Parlmer. "It can safely be linked to youth unemployment, which they talk a lot about now and is a huge concern."

The ongoing election campaign may also have had an effect, according to SKI. In previous elections year, faith in the economy has risen quite strongly before the election and then decreased.

"It remains to be seen if the bubble bursts again," said Parlmer. "This applies if politicians live up to the expectations they create in the debate."

SKI's measurement is based on nearly 2,500 interviews.
