Victoria, 33, and her husband, 37, visited the Domaine de la Grange at Savigny-le-Temple south of Paris to visit the former chateau of marshal Jean-Baptiste Bernadotte who in 1818 became king Charles XIV John of Sweden.

The princess, wearing a purple dress, visited the chateau and toured the grounds in a carriage, before visiting a chocolate factory in Sceaux in the southern suburbs of Paris.

The royal couple are on Tuesday to travel to Pau in the southwest - where Bernadotte was born in 1763 - before meeting President Nicolas Sarkozy in Paris in the evening.

Bernadotte served as an army officer under Napoleon until 1810 when he was elected as heir to the Swedish throne because the royal family there was dying

Like Victoria, he was a highly popular heir and went on to ally himself with Napoleon's enemies. He became king in 1818.

Victoria is first in line to inherit the Swedish throne after her father King Carl XVI Gustaf, who is also considered the head of state, albeit in a purely ceremonial capacity. She married her former gym instructor Daniel at a lavish Stockholm ceremony in June.

French roots...Geeeeez!

French people, the top cowards in Europe. Ask their biggest coward (Charles de Gaulle) why he escaped to Britain.

Anyway, I think Sweden is seeking for glory and something to be proud of.

@Tammybonny: It's part of the job, just as I have to pay for all the vacations, perks and everything else that our president takes, GWB was on vacation most of the time for 8 years and slept at the wheel the rest of the time. Hated him but still had to pay.

The adoration of royalty is a repulsive illness I cannot fathom, oh but doesn't she look so pretty in that dress and that perfect white tooth smile.

The inbred scum of the earth; who through war, incest, matricide, patricide, sibling homicide and every unquestionable disgusting inhuman act reached the top of the pile, of their own or each other's countries. Greek prince in the UK, married to German descendants who claim their nobility (only in word) to ancient Egypt and or the middle east. Greek queen of Spain, the list goes on with these out of necessity intermarrying types, due to the amount of aborted and hidden sick infants they brought forth.

They live off the sweat and blood of the blind on bended knee. They belong to all manner of insidious organisations and have hidden wealth interests in the suffering of human beings all over the world. Most belong to the Malthusian and eugenics movement mentality. Information you will never get in your news STORY papers. Find quotes from the founding fathers of the WWF, one example in thousands. The monarchy sanctioned sterilization of Swed's up until the 80's.

"Oh, but there only figure heads." naivity or brainwashing, take your pick.

AAAAH!! Finally a Princess Vicky picture, after a fairly long time without. She's truly lovely, but I still think he's a dork.

what is the point of relating the heritage to another nation? I recommend checking the Vikings then more thoroughly this time.

Sometimes, I think the kingdom idea should be abolished completely. Does King, or princess or prince fancy eyeglasses have anything to say regarding xenophobia here, in the air of Sweden other than searching for roots?

There must´ve been like a 10-page report on every Finnish news paper when these clowns got married.

What a waste of perfectly good pulp. Might as well dump in to sea.

How unfortunate that some Swedes have no respect for heritage or tradition and they prove that fact by vile rants against people who are better human beings.

The American at least recognizes Victoria as a fine person who does not fit the rant.

The American "aristocracy" of which Sherian speaks does fit the commenters rant, and so do the abysmal Republicans who have brought the U.S. to their knees, and caused untold problems for all the European countries , Sweden included.

The New World Order of which bush senior spoke is now the Global Economy model that for eight years run amok under bush junior and caused a world-wide "downturn" a.k.a Depression.

Yet, disenchanged and disaffected people rant on about "royalty."
