Örebro police have been working with a series of unsolved rapes and sexual attacks that have occurred in the city over the past five years.

The 23-year-old was arrested at around 7pm on Monday evening on a warrant for his arrest issued at 4pm on suspicion of rape and attempted rape.

"We have seen a series of events and it has been tremendously urgent to deal with it," said Ralf Hedin at Örebro police to journalists on Tuesday.

According to the police forensic evidence links the suspect to several of the attacks.

"We have forensic evidence which lends support to us having the right person in custody," Hedin said.

Police had previously suspected the involvement of two men in the rapes, and when asked whether the police are still considering for further suspects, Hedin replied:

"With regards to other attacks we have not seen any pattern."

The grade of suspicion levelled against the man was raised on Tuesday and he is now being held on the highest grade of suspicion - probable cause. The situation was changed when police were able to conclude that the forensic evidence supports the theory that "one and the same person committed a number of rapes".

"That our work has now progressed on a number of attacks against women, is dependent on methodical work," said county police commissioner Karl Wallin at the press conference.

"It has been a matter of urgency and troublesome that the attacks which we have now concentrated on occurred outside and have occurred in a series," said Ralf Hedin.

Örebro police have been investigating at least 12 cases of rapes and attempted rapes in the city.

On Sunday evening an extra 12 police units were deployed to search for the man and to increase security on the city's streets.

According to Örebro police spokesperson Torbjörn Carlson the arrest was carried out without any resistance.

"It was undramatic," he said.

Three new attacks were reported over the weekend, originally believed to be perpetrated by the same person.

Sunday's first attack occurred in western Örebro early in the morning when a 23-year-old woman was attacked by a man on a bicycle. Shortly afterwards a 64-year-old woman on Egnahemsgatan was raped.

On Sunday evening a young woman was attacked in her apartment by an unidentified man who had forced his way into her apartment. The attack was not however of a sexual nature.

IF this is the person...

SCUM like this don't deserve to live nor should tax payers have to pay to keep him alive in a prison.

do the right thing, use a bullet and be done with it.

europeman & BlackAfrican:

Not to say this character is sure to be of foreigner backround, the general restlesness is increasing. Sure, a lot of domestic rapists have existed before this scumbag..

As a comparison, after the war between Finland and Soviet Union, a lot of semi-finns Stalin demanded be deported back to Russia, circled around Finland doing all sorts of desperate stuff to get money or whatever, to survive. Their fate would not have been too nice back in Russia, or so they believed so they murdered taxi-drivers etc. and created a lot of general unease. Just one example of many possibilities, when the sircumstances create crime.

Right now we have the East-European trash driving around in unregistered vehicles stealing whatever they can lay their hands on. Copper wire is the hot stuff. One isolated incident involved a girl being pulled to one such vehicle and was gang-raped, thank god not killed.

The sircumstance is this and you can´t escape it. This is the open border EU for you and of course you can´t blame immigrants of this, the immigrant policie is to be blamed and all the flower-hats willing to harbour this trash.

I disagree, that is too easy for him.

He should be put in prison and they should make him work his ass off to pay for his expenses.

Imagine if this incident involve muslims.. then those party boys will quickly pop up to blame all muslims, islams and finally muslim refugees...... and then they general it back to only "immigrants problem"...yeah!

@ heu

your right and this is what i really wanted to post.

cut of his u know what, make him eat it, then lock him in a cell for a year.

then use a bullet.

i know that is super harsh but i have zero emotion when it comes to these scum.

Not to burst anyone's witchhunt bubble, but the suspect they had been looking for yesterday was "fair skinned", according to the police.

I'm assuming the guy is white.

Sorry if that bums anyone out.

If he´s domestic, they give him "life sentece," pump some drug inside him and he´ll be closed in for a few years. Maybe after 10 years or so he´ll be 33 and completely institutionalized. Then they let him go (if he doesn´t kill himself) he gets a pardon. Then he does something stupid again and this time he might take some with him in a shootout with the law.

If he´s foreign, makes no difference. Would be too harsh on him to kick that bitch out the plane above Mogadishu or Bukarest, right?

@ jarvilainennen

does not matter what color, race or creed, i'd hand out the same punishment to anyone who rapes people.... period.

and who cares if the person is colored or not, it is soooo not the point and only detracts from the focus of one of the worst crimes known. not to mention the poor women that this scum has screwed up for life. THAT is the real tragedy,

It seems that normalizing the abnormal is your raison d'etre.

You are not really Asian too... anti muslim asian troll... hahaha...
05:12 October 13, 2010 by Carnitas
Jbat and Cowboy- So he's anti-Muslim and a racist for pointing out that the rapist was a Somali (if indeed he was)? It's comical how you view the world.
07:21 October 13, 2010 by whatnowki
Each one of the women raped will have extreme depression and probably PTSD for a long time coming. Sometimes I wish that along with the articles of catching the perpetrator, there was also information on the process of healing for those will spend years looking around the carport to make sure it is clear or not wanting to enter elevators with other people or dreading a walk in any isolated area.
10:28 October 13, 2010 by cowboykodp

I don't know if he is wrong, But I have not heard anything about where the rapist is originally from. The point is, he does not know either.

He is a racist, not just because of this one comment. Your views are comical because you think everything happens in a vacuum, with no story behind it.

Yes, he and his buddies are ANTI Muslim. Sad.

I on the other hand could give a rats ass about religion. But am very passionate about being a human being. You should try it.
