The woman had been at a restaurant in the city when she was attacked by a 25-year-old man. No suspects had been detained by late Saturday evening.

Police see no immediate connection with an ongoing investigation into an extended string of rape attacks in the city.

"This crime is an isolated incident and the description of the suspect does not match with other similar incidents," Peter Persson at Örebro police said.

Örebro police have been working with a series of unsolved rapes and sexual attacks that have occurred in the city over the past five years.

In a separate case a 23-year-old man was arrested last Monday after three new attacks were reported over the weekend, originally believed to be perpetrated by the same person.

Story continues below…

The man was arrested at around 7pm last Monday evening on suspicion of rape and attempted rape after a broad police manhunt following the attacks on a 23-year-old and 64-year-old woman.

The man was later remanded into custody and has since confessed to a rape committed in March.

Believe it or not, Örebro used to be a really nice, proud city. That was 20-30 years ago.

is this depression sickness or disease, for a boy to rape a woman old enough to be his grandmother and girls as he goes along, needs a mental re-orientation. In short what issweden turning to in trems of crime?or maybe punishment should be reviewed for crimes committed.

I don't understand, no suspects had been detained but they know the age of the attacker?

How do they know that?

@Saar: i wonder the same thing myself

Grand Theft Auto Sweden? (Especially when only isolated incidents become the report.)

@ saar and spo10: It's just a badly worded article (no surprise there. This is The Local, after all). As we all know, a 23 yr old man was arrested last week regarding some of the attacks. However it looks like there are multiple offenders here.

No the article is clear the local know it is a 25 YO they should help the police out by handing over his ID!

it does say "in a separate case" they have a 23 YO, which means they already got him and this is another man !

so is it the local knows more than the police or is it the police have to finish their fika first before they went get him??

The higher the population, the higher the crime incidence, in most cases I would say.

Sweden is in a Catch-22: wants to increase population to pay taxes and support the system, but must also be prepared to deal with the increased crime rate.
