Authorities said on Friday that the suspicious package turned out to be a fake bomb.

Authorities were on high alert as the incident occurred less than two weeks after the country's first suicide bombing.

"It looked like a real bomb. Someone made it to frighten people," said Stockholm police spokesman Henrik Billestam.

Police described the packet as a object about the size of a milk carton, wrapped with silver adhesive tape with cables connected to a mobile phone.

On Thursday night police completely evacuated the Kungsträdsgården metro station and sent in deminers after a train driver alerted authorities to the possible threat.

The metro station is close to the seat of government in the Swedish capital.

Sweden has been on alert since December 11 when a suicide bomber, strongly believed to be Taimour Abdulwahab, first blew up his car and later himself near a crowded pedestrian street in central Stockholm.

Story continues below…

He was carrying a cocktail of explosives and police suspect he may have left the crowd of Christmas shoppers due to a problem with the bombs when he mistakenly set off a small charge while standing in an empty side-street.

The bomber was the only person to die in the attack, but two people were slightly injured when his car exploded minutes earlier about 300 metres away.

indeed , well done xenophobes.now you are scaring Sweden for your own stupid political gains.

powerofknowledge and truthworthy, do you have any evidence of this? Or are you just a couple more self-described intelligence experts? You let your ideals cloud your logic too much.

Must have been SD behind the December 11th bombing too. The rudimentary nature of this makes me think it is a group of kids that thought it would be funny.

hopefully this comment will be allowed to stay up...Sweden Democrats behind this? I am assuming the SD is not the Social Dems to which you are referring in either case you guys are dumber than a box of rocks!!!!! That's right turn a blind eye to terrorism and you WILL pay a dear price for your stupidity!

@4genwarrior- By taking in a certain group of refugees/asylum seekers over the past 20 yrs Sweden already has been turning a blind eye to terrorism. Now that Migrationsverket is "wising up" about who it deports, hopefully they will "wise up" regarding who they IMport in the near future.

Ravioli and others,

I apologize for the bad-mouthing I did in my post I ACTUALLY posted a constructive and very enlightening and intelligent post prior to that one, BUT apparently waxing intelligent is not allowed- it was removed...I only wrote this to try to explore the boundaries of allowance...needless to say I am appalled...at the frat boy mentality fostered on this site.

Ravioli, I am aware of the same info as you with regards to the Sweden Democrats. What I do know that perhaps you may not...1) the extreme left (Social Democrats) in this country allied themselves with NASI Germany and Hitler, in word and in deed, expressly against Britain and the U.S. and 2) the very same tactics, slogans and people the left cites in this country they do in the U.S. against any Republican, but most especially against the Tea Party people.

By all accounts to the uneducated in the U.S. and outside the U.S. would think that the GOP and the Tea Party are horrible racists who want to destroy the world and build it up in their own image. The more dangerous a group like the Sweden Democrats or the Tea Party are to the left, especially the extreme left the more loud they are and more horrible their opponent is. This is a standard of Marxism like tactics that all communists, socialists, and their fellows on the left employ from center-left all the way to the left fringes to the leftist anarchists.

Don't assume that someone or some organzation is evil and what their oppponent says they are until you do your homework.

Good Luck to ya!
