While Malmö police claim the investigation is a pure formality, her senior citizen status adds an unusual twist to crimes typically handled by the narcotics division.

“It is not very common for people to engage in drug sales at that age,” Officer Lars Jernberg from the Malmö Police told the region’s daily newspaper Sydsvenskan.

Jernberg was not surprised by the elderly woman’s arrest, saying that she has been the subject of police interest for years.

Officials claim that the drug dealing, most notably heroin, has been in the family for a long time and they speculate that’s why she continues her ‘work’ despite her advanced age.

A search of her apartment produced five additional doses of heroin.

The woman and her son, who is also a suspect and was found at her apartment during the search, were arrested and detained by prosecutors, according to Sydsvenskan.

After questioning, both were released. However, the 77-year-old woman was held and questioned longer than her son.

Story continues below…

Authorities claim her interrogation was longer due to technical reasons and data gathering.

The reason the woman's interrogation was longer was because they were probably waiting for Wallander to drive over from Ystad.

Only 5 doses? Maybe she was just using? Then again, possessing a joint in Sweden probably gets you drug trafficking charges.

All drugs should be decriminalized, this grandma will sit in prison for nothing. If people want to use something, they should be allowed to use, nobody is without brain, they know very good what they do. Cigarettes are drugs and coffee is drug, and alcohol is drug, so what? When people smoke marijuana they are smiling and they are happy, they make fun, when they drink alcohol they become aggressive and they attack other people. But alcohol is allowed and marijuana is forbidden, marijuana is maybe 5 times stronger than cigarettes... big deal. But people in parliament are just careerist in some political party and they are not professionals about drugs, in the end, the state need more cheap workers in the prisons. Cocaine was prescribed by doctors before it was criminalized. Eat too much apples and you can die, problem is not cocaine than how people use it. @asteriks I agree w/ you at least when it comes to Marijuana which I consider less damaging than prescription drugs and alcohol & cigarets. Just think how we could empty the prisons and save money!!! Also, I believe we could get rid of some of the violence. The government will also charge taxes and that would be revenue to improve the healthcare system maybe even get enough ambulances & improve the railways. could think of all kinds of benefits. There is also a downside of course.

She's only trying to supplement her pension. Swedish oldies are among the poorest in Europe.

Seems a bit extreme but I would not be surprised. I see a lot of elderly people out collecting cans and bottles.

who was supplying her, and why not take everyone down and arrest them ?

in some countries you get death penalty for this, in others they just investigate and keep track of you until you made millions out of ripping the life of needy people.

maybe call them suspects and keep investigating them for 10 more years isnt such a good idea , just shoot them really -_-x
