Police finally found the girl around 8.30am Wednesday morning, while the conductor was suspended later in the day.

The girl, a refugee of African descent who speaks very little Swedish, was travelling to Gothenburg with her 22-year-old sister.

Her older sister, who had the tickets, was in the toilet when the conductor came by.

The incident took place around 7.30pm on Tuesday evening, but it took three hours before officials from national rail operator SJ contacted Örebro police and explained what had happened.

The girl's older sister continued to Gothenburg, believing her sister was somewhere on the train, the local Nerikes Allehanda newspaper reported.

Örebro police spokesperson Mats Nylén said the girl was found in central Kumla around 8.30am Wednesday morning.

“The girl was just found, in good spirits,” Nylén told the TT news agency.

Rather than being left to wander alone in Kumla throughout the night, the girl was instead taken in my a local resident.

“The woman felt sorry for the girl and let her come home with her. She stayed there overnight. When they went out this morning to buy food and a train ticket, they were discovered by the police who were looking for her,” said Nylén.

According to Nylén, had the girl not been found unharmed, train personnel may have come under criminal suspicion.

“Now that she's been found and nothing has happened, the chances are somewhat diminished. Otherwise it could have been a crime of recklessness; that someone subjected this girl to unnecessary risk of being harmed,” he said.

“We'll look into it further, and perhaps the prosecutor will also have an opinion about it. The main thing is that the girl has been found.”

Later on Wednesday, SJ spokesperson Dag Rosander announced that the conductor who forced the girl from the train had been suspended,

“She will be interviewed about what happened. She can then explain her views on the matter, then we'll make a decision. What it will be, I can't say at this point,” he told TT.

According to Rosander, a child who lacks a ticket can't be kicked off a train in the matter the girl was ejected in Kumla.

“In this case, something has clearly gone wrong and procedures weren't followed,” he said.

In looking for the girl, police had searched stairwells and other areas in Kumla where they suspected a frightened little girl might be hiding.

Trains departing from Kumla during the evening had also been searched.

SJ spokesperson Torvald Svahn admitted earlier on Wednesday that the conductor had exercised poor judgement.

“Personnel made a mistake and acted wrongly. We deeply regret what has happened,” he told TT.

Speaking to the Expressen newspaper, SJ spokesperson Sven-Ingvar Håkansson said that the conductor misjudged the 11-year-old girl's age.

Story continues below…

"The only thing we can confirm is that the girl got off at Kumla and that a judgement was made that she was much older. We were very shocked when we heard that she was only 11-years-old," Håkansson told the newspaper.

"If we'd known or believed that she was so young we naturally wouldn't have let her off at the station in Kumla. If someone doesn't have a ticket and is a young person or child, they can get off where there is someone waiting for them. We don't kick children off."

Speaking with the Aftonbladet newspaper, Håkansson pointed out that riding a train without a valid ticket is a criminal offence.

According to police spokesman Nylén, the girl may actually be older than her stated 11 years of age due to uncertainty about her background.

The girl's home is in Nora, a small town of about 6,500 located about 35 kilometres north of Örebro.

Kumla, home to one of Sweden's most notorious prisons, is located about 20 kilometres south of Örebro.

The ass- of the conductor should be fired! How come he didn't inquire if the little girl was travelling by herself or not. And how ruthless to let the girl off the train without trying to communicate with her? She didn't know Swedish. I think that was the root of all the problems.

Pathetic conductor and pathetic system. I do hope SJ takes proper steps and educates the conductors in languages such as English and gesture before letting them loose on trains.
08:57 August 3, 2011 by Zeffanyx
Please, announce the nationality and skin colour of both the conductor and the girl. Believe me, this makes a GREAT sense in investigating.
09:02 August 3, 2011 by bolababu

That question you just asked is why any Swedes haven't commented on this thread yet.

Just that she didn't speak enough Swedish, most Swedes would feel that the conductors actions were justified and that it was the little girl's fault.
09:14 August 3, 2011 by Already in use
@bolababu I too find the incident very upsetting, but your generalized judgement of Swedes is very unfair. I myself speak very little Swedish and with one exception I've been treated with nothing but kindness. The one exception, come to think of it, was train personnel.
09:25 August 3, 2011 by sliver
Has the girl been found or not? The headline say she has been found but there is no indication of that in the story.
09:25 August 3, 2011 by bolababu

Now you totally misunderstand me, i have many swedish friends myself who have been nothing but kind to me. My point here is not that other swedes will do the same as this conductor has done but that swedes do not speak up and condemn wrong-doings by other swedes, infact they are quick instead to condemn short-comings by non-swedes. In everyday life i see this; when a swede does something wrong, people here tend to think that he knows what he is doing or there is a good reason but if a non-swede does exactly the same thing, they are like; "who the hell does he think he is"? "this is sweden, we don't do this here, take your ass back to the third world.

I just mean that people need to speak up here regardless of who the perpetrator is.

Aha....so that has been rectified.
09:37 August 3, 2011 by occassional
How can you throw out an 11 year old even if the hasn't got a ticket???

If anything you call the police to come and collect her at the next station.

Welcome everyone to the strange world of conductors SJ seem to employ.
09:37 August 3, 2011 by 0007
that's because she is black.
09:45 August 3, 2011 by jostein
No ticket, no trainride. Whats so hard to understand about that?
09:45 August 3, 2011 by conboy
I witnessed a similar case on the Stockholm underground not so long ago duty of care and service mindedness are non existent in this country - the intervention by myself and two other passengers enabled the young girl to continue her journey when we offered her a coupon to be stamped and retained by her although it was an adults. The atitude of the ticket controllers and guards was beyond belief.

What a terrible article. The title states the girl has been found but there is no mention anywhere in the article of her actually being found... The structure of this text is child-like and unprofessional.

In the hope that the author reads a few of these comments here are a few tips:

- Use the most important fact in the title

- First para should encapsulate the entire story in a nutshell

- Further paragraphs should reinforce the first para

- Add 1 or 2 quotes from the story's stakeholders or from an analyst

- Finally add further paragraphs of background information that can be edited out without detracting from the story

That was a very rude and untastefull manners of whoever animal working in public sector, common sense noll!!!!

maybe the 11 years issue! i find it hard to understand!!! crazy me (and some others).
10:19 August 3, 2011 by foxpur
The conductor should get a equal punishment.... take them to a stop in the middle of nowhere blindfolded... then take the blind fold and make them find their - added fun, they are not allowed to ask for aid (because the girl was shy, she didn't ask anyone)
10:20 August 3, 2011 by occassional
Jostein ... the up and coming SJ conductor.
10:22 August 3, 2011 by Jes
If the conductor is asked to explain why he threw an 11 year child off the train , he should hire that judge who found that a racist is fit to sit in a court that handles immigrant cases .
10:22 August 3, 2011 by pcs

Point taken however, even within SJ's own customer handling guidelines they have a responsibility and duty of care to all customers especially a CHILD!
10:24 August 3, 2011 by jostein
I was kicked off a train when i was 10, brat that i was? A

conductor is not a wellfare worker, his job is to see to it that the people on the train have tickets and that people that do not have tickets are not on the train. He did his job. I have littel sympathy for people that dont take responsibility for themselves and then start whining as if its someone elses fault? Its not his fault this sister was a moron?
10:41 August 3, 2011 by Elvine
Svenska Dagbladets states that an old lady took care of the girl during the night and then went with her to the station to buy a ticket home for her the following morning. Then she was found. The old lady didn't think of calling the police.

The normal thing to do when a kid dont have a ticket is to use the loudspeakers to get in touch with the parents (or any other adult travelling with the child). And if they dont find them, call the police.

10:56 August 3, 2011 by PoJo
Oh come on, how much older can an 11-year old girl look like? Does she look 18?

It's a disgrace that just because she could not speak swedish, she was thrown out. Are these conductors robots, I wonder?
11:12 August 3, 2011 by Frank Arbach
...seems an reasonably typical everyday Swedish way of dealing with a non-Swedish speaker
11:22 August 3, 2011 by JulieLou40
I agree. Cold logic instead of common sense being used by all (even the old lady who didn't have the brains to call the police).

Mindless bloody sheep!!

Thanks, your comment was actually more informative that TL's article!
11:28 August 3, 2011 by nolikegohome
What do you think the parents must have been going thru until this time? does anyone care that this child and the parents might be having a post traumatic stress related syndrome?
11:29 August 3, 2011 by jacquelinee

She had a ticket and a conducter should never therow a child off a train without investigating. Also, what is wrong with the other passengers sitting around her? Would they not tell the idiot conducter she was with another woman and to wait? But, when in Rome again...shhh don't get involved or open your mouth.

Like I told you before, every day it is another story of imcompetence and unaccountability.

According to Nylén, had the girl not been found unharmed, train personnel may (get that?may) have come under criminal suspicion.

"Now that she's been found and nothing has happened, the chances are somewhat diminished. Otherwise it could have been a crime of recklessness; (otherwise??? are you kidding me) that someone subjected this girl to unnecessary risk of being harmed," he said.

"We'll look into it further,(as usual and the tooth fairy really does exist) and perhaps the prosecutor will also have an opinion about it

The police said they had not yet received any explanation for the conductor's actions. (how can you explain being an idiot?)

"We'll deal with that later. (hahah and again, the tooth fairy really does exist) I hope that SJ investigates the matter (hahah)....."Personnel made a mistake and acted wrongly.
11:48 August 3, 2011 by JustG
This is not the first time this thing has happened, and it probably won't be the last. Part of the issue is the general attitude here that Africans must be criminals, and part of it is impatience with anyone who has trouble making herself understood in Swedish. I won't label the conductor as a racist since I don't know her, but she was certainly intolerant of this girl and neglected to her rights. Such a person is not suitable to work with the public at all, let alone in a position of power, as minimal as a conductor's power is.

More than that, though, the conductor is guilty of child endangerment, in my opinion, and should be charged with a criminal offense even though the girl is fine. SJ should be held accountable as well. A child should never be thrown off a train. Not ever. If there is a problem, SJ should contact the police; doing so would have saved this child the terror of being abandoned in a town where she didn't know anyone and barely spoke the language.
11:48 August 3, 2011 by tuerd1982
@wolverine2k I agree with you, good comment.

@jostein You are very wrong dude, read the news again the girl's ticket was kept by her older sister and she was went to toilet. The conductor should wait for the girls sister if he really wants to see the ticket or he will back some time later to check again. The conductor is really bad.

I think girls sister also irresponsible. After she didn't seen her sister why she don't start searching her little sister immediately.

Some months of the year I am commuting between where I live to other town for work so I am buying monthly card in these months. One day I just come to train station and run into the train with out checking my pocket since I believe my card in my wallet, unfortunately when conductor came I realized my wallet wasn't there. So I explained to the personal and he said it is OK and told me don't forget next time. It was very embarrassing moment, after that I got lesson to check my wallet when ever I go and how busy I was. From this you can see, there are some personals they are really kind and friendly. So that conductor doesn't represent all .
12:15 August 3, 2011 by Jes
The conductor is a horrible fool , just like @ jostein .

It is a crime to travel without a ticket , is it not ?

If the girl failed to show her ticket , why didn´t the conductor alert security or law enforcement officers that there was a violator on board ?

@tuerd 1982 , it is funny that you accuse the sister of being irresponsible on the grounds that she failed to start searching the little sister immediately . What if the big sister come into the train without checking her pockets to make sure that she had her wallet ?

Sometimes stuff happens ; but you don`t always figure out that some people will always refuse to reason properly
12:27 August 3, 2011 by Rick Methven
@ Jostein

I have just been talking to my neighbour who just happens to be a conductor on SJ and she says the SJ rules and the Law is very clear. A conductor can not under ANY circumstances throw a child under the age of 16 off the train alone. If he wanted to remove her from the train, he should have handed her into the care of station staff at Kumla. My neighbour said that he will be fired and his excuse that he thought she was older will never wash.

In all likelihood, not only will he be fired from SJ, he will be prosecuted and have to pay compensation.
12:34 August 3, 2011 by The_Truthisbitter
The conductor looks like one who would throw out anybody, because to him/her it is the buck that matters.

I am African, and remember riding a train with a ticket..Problem?? I dozed off cos I was very tired from my overseas trip, and found myself in Stockholm instead of the city where I lived.

After explaining my plight to the conductor, in the hope that he would give me the schedule for the train to my destination ( I was new to Sweden so needed help with train schedules), the conductor did two things:

1) He took my original ticket and signed behind it , stating his contact number and told me to use the same ticket to get to my destination

2) He took me to the departing Platform and told me to wait for my next train that should arrive in 20 minutes, and left me with a smile telling me not to doze off again.

This happened in Sweden, and the conductor is Swedish, and I am an adult.

So just like in all aspects of Swedish life, your blessing or curse depends on the whims and caprices of whom you meet.

The happy twist in this tale is that the young girl was found. As to whether her family would press charges doesnt at all depend on the fact that she was " Found unharmed"

Not all Swedes are bad..there are so many good Swedes out there, unfortunately the poor judgement of a few is often show cased as the only side one should see about Swedish Society.

Humans are what they are..
12:55 August 3, 2011 by sfk
@ jostein

You had the same kind of mindless behavior and it was okay for you...

If you are aware of the the law or whatsoever should know that 10 or 11 years old child can not take their responsibility...

I think you are the one of those conductors....
13:00 August 3, 2011 by RobinHood
When I was 11, I was thrown off a train in Gävle at 02.00 in morning in minus 25.

Fortunately, I had a micro nuclear reactor in my pocket, and none of the 94 rescued hedgehogs I had in my other pocket got cold; we took the bus home instead.
13:02 August 3, 2011 by J. L. Belmar
The girl, who is of African descent and speaks very little Swedish, was travelling to Gothenburg with her 22-year-old older sister.

This paragraph is the background in a nutshell: "A girl of African roots who speaks very little Swedish and who faces one more of the stupid Swedish racists running in one way or another, the fate of the country and its citizens.

@jolstein You should be ashamed. You are such a poor reader that if you do not understand the third paragraph of the story (Her older sister, who had the tickets, was in the toilet when the conductor came by.), you are hopeless. And where did you get that the conductor was a "he". What about if the "he" turns out to be a "she" or another Tommy Baite?

You are asking far too much. Be happy that you can more or less read what the "journalists" from "The Local" write, but do not expect them to have the slightest idea about writing following the inverted pyramid technique. They do not know what type of healines are eyecatchers, what is the meaning of the ´5 W's and the 1 H and they do not know that when writing for a paper, you should write always following the rule of the diminishing importance, that is, the least important is written at the end so that if an editor (you know, those who are paid to put dirt into a completely white page because otherwise they consider themselves to be of no value. Ho, ho, ho.) needs to cut something for space reasons, he can cut for the end of any article. And spy, the article does mention where the girl was found: "

Örebro police spokesperson Mats Nylén said the girl was found in central Kumla around 8.30am Wednesday morning."

@pojo # 22...Now, the are not robots. They are Swedes dealing with an 11 year-old girl with African, read well, AFRICAN, roots.

What pisses me of in all the threads I have tried to participate in The Local, is that the majority is only jumping into conclussions.

The "ifs" are always here and there". If my mother had wheels, she would be a byke; if, if, if.

O.K. If this is the best place to be found in the Internet, well, as Jacquelinee says, "In Rome..." and do not open your mouth too much because... well, just because if...

13:09 August 3, 2011 by conboy
Belmar the conductor in question has been suspended and an inquiry is to begin shortly there may even be grounds for a criminal investigation - On this occasion I am having a hard time negotiating your mental gymnastics as outlined above.
13:23 August 3, 2011 by J. L. Belmar

Your question has some answers:

1.- Carl Bildt would make a statement.

2.- Fredrik Reinfeldt would go with his Filippa to Atalaya.

3.- Swedish ambassador would inmediately declare that it was

thanks to his efforts that the girl had been found safe and

4.- Aftonbladet, Expressen, Dagens Nyheter and Svenska Dagbladet, would inmediately prepare a jippo press campaing with

the title "Save the girl" and the following lead: "A Swedish girl

in the wrong hands in a dictatorial country where she might

face dead penalty for having forgotten her travelling ticket and not beeing able to show it to the train conductor.

5.- A little ad would appear in the upper right corner of the first page with the following text: "96 hours now since the girl has not been found".

6.- Maud Olofsson would start crying in front of the cameras.

7.- Social Democrats would organize a manifestation at Sergel Torg.

8.- People would be organized to throw stones against the embassy whose country caught the Swedish girl without being able to show her ticket to the train conductor.

But, there might be a hell of a difference.

The girl in this story, had her ticket, but it was kept by her older sister who was in the need to be in the toilet, and

the Swedish girl in the "I wonder" comment from akhokhay, might, just might have a desire to travel for free without a ticket.

!Vive la difference!

think it was criminal to throw an 11 year old off the train, even though it is SJ policy to get passengers to leave without a valid ticket, common sense should have prevailed, customer service is not exactly great here anyway!!

@ Ríck Methven

"In all likelihood, not only will he be fired from SJ, he will be prosecuted and have to pay compensation. "

You wrote: "On this occasion I am having a hard time negotiating your mental gymnastics as outlined above."

I write: "On every occasion you are having a hard time negotiating with your own mental gymnastics. It would be a miracle if you could negotiate with others mental gymnastics"

In an nutschell: I am too many numbers bigger than you. You do not know about mental gymnastics the 50% I have already forgotten about it.

Now, it has been published that the "he" conductor was a "she". She is not working for the moment, but whe has to explain why she did what she did.

Was it because she did not like the colour of the 11 year-old skin?

Was it because she is just racist?

Was it because she is just plain stupid?

Was it because whatever?

This is another case, not for the Swedish police, but for Hercule Poirot, Tom Barnaby, Magnum, Lindley, the FBI, CIA, SÄPO, Conbuey, prince.

Let us wait what comes next. Oh, the girl might be extradited to her country of origin for tresspassing the Swedish Laws of Inmigration.
13:54 August 3, 2011 by Rick Methven

Not in this case. My neighbour ( an SJ conductor) says that this is as serious as it can get because it is abuse of a minor. The conductor endangered the life of a young child and his lame excuse that he thought she was older is not a mitigating circumstance. He will not be allowed tp work as conductor again and the union will not back him up as he clearly broke the law. the best he can hope for is a job out of sight from the travelling public.
13:58 August 3, 2011 by jacquelinee
@ Chrislod # 37 Read the article... Recap below

Not Fired at all, "withdrawn from service at this time" because she (the conducter) is "not feeling well" (do I hear sick pay??? do I hear vacation pay???) She (the conducter) will be interviewed and the matter will be "looked into"(yup, they always are)....and proceedures will be reviewed. (yawn, heard it all before) One postitive thing, the crew will be told how to proceed in similar circumstances.

The girls' family will get an apology and possible compensation. (Don't hold your breath on that one, cus your gonna die)
14:00 August 3, 2011 by Jes
@akhokhay , the answer to your question can come from the 11 year old Swedish children that found themselves alone when the sunami hit the far eastern coast . The Locals , who could neither speak Swedish or English took them somewhere and started looking for help .

Most Swedish sumani survivors tell stories of how they were taken care of by strangers - something that seemed almost "illegal " to do in Sweden.

The point is that a child is child . It is therefore amazing that this conductor saw an African girl who could not speak Swedish and he/she did not bother to engage his/her human instincts and wonder why ( or if ) this child - and a girl at that . was travelling alone without a ticket .

--and even if the girl showed a ticket , some one would still be curious as to why she was alone . In UK , bus / cub/ train drivers are obliged to look our and report any suspicous things that they notice from their passangers . They work with the public and see a lot of things . They are trained to judge that a child travelling without a ticket might be in some kind of distress . You don´t throw them off the train , you call in some authority to investigate . This is what the conductor should have done .

Now that he/ she is suspended , one hopes that some incompent "Judge" will not find this conductor fit enough to work in a foster home .

What the conductor did is more than just a bad error . He/she threw this little girl under a bus .
14:11 August 3, 2011 by J. L. Belmar
@jacqueline....Ýou are on target.

1. "Withdrawn from service at this time"...I have heard the same

over and over and over again in this country. They do not

prosecute the guilty one, but they do prosecute the victim.

2.-"Because the conductor was not feeling well". How the little

girl was feeling and has been feeling is completely irrelevant.

The "she" conductor will have money to go to Atalaya and

enjoy the Turkish beaches.

3.- The investigators will certainly look into the matter means that

they will protect the conductor and blaim the girl for not being

white and for travelling with a syster that was in the need of

going to the toilet.

4.- "The crew will be told how to proceed in similar circumstances" means that they will form a commission that will conduct a study that will be ready by 2018.

5.- Every stupidity committed in this country, is fixed with a stupid apology and a "possible" (read well) "possible" compensation.

They insult you, they mistreat you, they make "potatismos" out

of you, they lie about you, they infringe your human rights, etc,

etc, etc, and everything is compensaded with money.

Swedes think that with money they can buy honour, pain, human rights, freedom rights, conciences, everything. Well, they

might get away with that with other Swedes, but not with foreigners who has higher values than money.

I am still holding my breath on this one, jacquelineee. I hope I will not die, but who knows, maybe your nose will know, because you have certainly the nose of a real Pointer. Good for you.
14:40 August 3, 2011 by BillyB
totally disgraceful event and the conductor should be sacked at the very least

this is in a whole new league to just being a "jobsworth"

adandoning an 11 girl into the night in a strange area is tantamount to aiding and abetting child abusers and murderers.

This could have had such a tragic ending.

Makes my blood boil how can people be so stupid.
14:40 August 3, 2011 by Smallnose
Who says it was a racial thing? I also read about a woman attacking teenagers with bow and arrow. And last week some-one abusing children in this newspaper. Maybe in this country we do not like children that much.
14:55 August 3, 2011 by J. L. Belmar

1.- Who was abusing children at The Local? ???

And instead of writing "Maybe in this country we do not like children that much." you should have written "maybe in this country they do not like children that much". Do not generalize, because your "we" would never include ME. If you do not like

children, that is your problem, but I mean well educated and raised children, not the spoiled brats you meet one day yes and another also when going out. Poor parents! The majority has lost the power of educating their children.in Sweden.

What I want to read now is Chapter 2 of this stupid story about the more stupid conductor leaving an 11 year-old girl alone in the wilderness.
15:38 August 3, 2011 by spy
@ J. L. Belmar

Initially the article had no mention of finding the girl, other than in the title - it was rectified after criticism from a number of commenters.
16:26 August 3, 2011 by conboy
Well thats fair comment Belmar but some of the comments on this thread made by others leave much to be desired or appreciated. Hope the girl was not too traumatised and the conductor at minimum learns a lesson.
17:53 August 3, 2011 by jostein
The conductor throws off a girl without a ticket that looks 18 years old, according to the conductor.

The girl claims she is 11 years old.

Who is right?

Well, we have a third party in this, a lady that takes care of the girl for the night in Tumba. She claims she found her around the railwaystation at 19:00-20:00 or somesuch. What would you do if you found a crying child that is alone and has nowhere to stay? A) Phone the police immidiately and take care of her until efforts have started to find her parents? B) Bring her home for dinner, let her sleep over and put off calling the police until next morning?

Hell, i would not even act like this lady did if i found a runaway dog, much less if i found a child. So, the only way this story makes sense is if the women thought this "girl" was a confused young adult.

Furthermore, why would the girl lie about her age? Well, as others pointed out here, special rules apply for children under 12 on trains, they can go with an adult without paying? Also, possibly young age gives special priviliges when trying to get put and get access to lifelong wellfare on the swedish taxpayer?

Furthermore, her older sister is acting fishy too. Normally, the conductors make their rounds immidiately when the train leaves the station. Which means that this sister hops on the train, leaves her "11-year old" sister alone and stays in the bathroom while the conductor makes her round? Like, 15 min? 20?

And how difficult can it be to show which way her sister went? How would that make sense? Only if she were afraid to show where her "sister" was? Methinks the "sister" didnt have a ticket either.

This story reeks. And if you cant see that, well, i have this nice tower in paris id like to sell to you for a bargain price..

Hopefully the conductor will look back at their actions and try to use common sense which was clearly lacking in this case!!!

So you would not notify the police immidiately if you found a lost child? No care at all for the parents? If you cant smell a rat in this story you will believe anyting.

Refugees lie about their ages all the time because if you're under 16 you're allowed to stay no matter what. It even states in the article that her real age and background is uncertain. The woman who got her to stay with her clearly also thought she was an adult since otherwise she would have called the police.

Conductors are most certainly allowed to kick people off the trains for not having tickets. In fact that's standard procedure. It's the fact that she claims to be so young that's the problem. The conductor is suspended for now pending an investigation but I think he'll be let off for sure.

sj needs to imployed people who speaks good english, they usual shaking when they speak english, and in that case i usualy don't understand what they say..lol
19:06 August 3, 2011 by jostein
Furthermore, it took the sister 2 hours to notify anyone that her "sister" was missing. My bet is that she was freeloading too and waited until the train left the last stop before her destination. My bet is that she spent those 2 hours in the toilet.

After all the reading I've done I'm becoming increasingly grateful to be going to Sweden with blue eyes and blonde hair. However, I guess I can expect the same treatment as soon as I open my non-Swedish speaking mouth.

I take that back, my decent haircut will probably give away my not being a Swede before I speak.

This country has no humanity. Someone stated it up above. So up its arse with bureaucrcacy. It is so cold, ice wouldn't melt on its on its bum. More than the conductor, what about all the brave somebodies on the train, in the same carriage ? God heip you if you get a heart attack aboard SJ or any public transport system in Sweden because you can be sure there is no Samaritan out there who will come to your aid. This event shoud serve as a wake up call to this godforsaken country which is losing any sense of human touch. Bergman's vision of Sweden is so true.

The lady who took care of her says that the little girl didn't look older than eleven at all, that she (the lady) is 160 cm, and the girl was shorter than her. She also said that the girl could speak Swedish and that SJ:s making excuses.

Well done Justein!

It took 54 posts, yes 54! Before anybody questioned the fact that the child was taken by an "older" woman and kept overnight and the Police were not contacted.

You beat me to it!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is more to this story than what has been reported, I hope the Local follows this article and gets to the truth.

It really is odd.

uch stupid behavior at the Swedish work-place does not surprise me anymore. All of my top ten human-acts-of-stupidity have been experienced in this country and have been performed by Swedes.

I had no idea that I had such an intolerance for incompetence before I moved here, and experiencing it with such regularity and frequency induced a bout of insomnia. The sleepless nights did however allowed me to deduce some understanding as to why incompetence occurs so often in this country.

1. There is no accountability. Swedes don't like conflict. So people in authority don't correct people. And if they do then they usually make it more complicated than it needs to be.

2. Unions protect bad workers. The unions don't act so to achieve efficient and effective work place outcomes.

3. Lack of negligence law.

4. Swedes are not attentive to their boarder role in a system and merely perform the immediate task before them.

5. They lack analysis skills to foresee the consequences of their actions.

6. Lack of motivation to excel. Nor is there encouragement to excel.

Actually I could go on and on. Basically this country has constructed a system of organized stupidity that I never thought possible in a country with such educational resources. The most frustrating element of Swedish incompetence is their arrogance and pigheadedness. Helping Swedes to avert a bad outcome is like talking to a monkey drugged up on an opiate. Despite all pleads and advice they still follow that path towards Kenny's top ten acts-of-human-stupidity.

Now I've programmed my consciousness to expect it and this has remedied the insomnia. All I need to do is save my kid's from developing this Swedish paradigm. We will be reading many more acts of stupidity by Swedes in the future.

Everyone is blaming the conductor of the train, is the ticket person the conductor in Swedish or somthing? Because the conductor is busy driving the train and not checking for tickets.

I'm sorry for us all. We will soon top the list of the most inhuman society in the world. I don't think this is about race or racism per se, but about lack of humanity. It's time we started teaching the philosophy of ubuntu in our schools. I don't mean the computer program. But the original African philosophy which states that "people are people because of other people". i.e I am what I am because of who we all are.

@jostein # 54

It happened in Kumla, not in Tumba. No wonder your comments are sometimes not to easy to understand.

@viola1d #66

Conductor is the person who collects fares on a public conveyance, a shared passenger transportation service.

Motorman is one who drives a vehicle, conducente, buidatore, conduttore, macchinista, motorista.

@J. L. Belmar #68

That the best you can come up with? Try looking at the facts of the case and do some thinking of your own? Or is that against your ideology, to think for yourself? Only open your mouth and let whatever is dictated by someone else come out? Like in this case, aftonbladet by thelocal?

Whether you like it or not, Kumla is not Tumba, you moron.

One more of your comments as the last one and you will certainly win the prize. 2011 Nobel Prize in Stupidity?

Wish someone would kick you off this train right now. You are too much of a heavy thinker, even to your own forking family.

When I open my brains is for saying something wise, witty, intelligent, clever, shrewd or sharp. When you open your big fat mouth, the product is simply a vomit.

14:19 August 4, 2011 by Jes
@Gamla Hälsningbock , there is nothing so odd .

The old lady did not call the Police because she understood that the girls problem was a train ticket . The old lady was preparing to buy the girl a ticket and send her home . She has said that the girl seemed to be scared of the police .

Some may ask why one should not call the police immediately after finding a lost child .

The polite answer to that is that one has to be there to take such a decision . One has to judge if the girl is "LOST " or just looking for help to go home .

It is never an eazy call to make . I know because it happened to my family when my wife and our daughter found a teen-age girl dead drunk ( I suspected she was on drugs as well ). Apparently some idiots had abandoned her in a park next to our home , taking everything from her . The girl was filthy , stinky and could not even walk . They had no choice but to bring her into the house to try and see if we could call her parents or Social Officers . it was not even possible to get to her to tell us who or where to call . We thought it was not the correct thing to ring the police , unless she said that we should . We decided to let rest for a while and wait before we could take the next step . When we managed to make say something , she asked for cold milk and a lift home . We asked her if we should call her parents or the police . "No" , she insisted .. All she wanted was to clean herself up and a lift home .

My daughter gave her some clothes and they drove her home where her mother was really really shocked to see her daughter like that .The Mom appreciated the fact that the Police or Social people were not called in . We have never known why . .

Regardless of what your job entails, the mere fact that this idiotic conductor completely had no thought about the welfare of a minor without a guardian is the issue. If he had just waited to even contemplate about waiting to see if she was accompanied by an adult would have been the expected action.

To kick a child, regardless of colour or creed, off of a train without any adult supervision smacks of pure insubordination and a clear lack of intelligence.

This member of staff needs to be removed of this status of responsibility immediately and this train company clearly owes the family a massive apology.
20:19 August 4, 2011 by Jes
@ Migga , it is also disguting to have to see an unitelligent comment like yours .

It is a crime to travel on a train without a ticket . If this idiotic conductor thought the girl was older than 15 and had no ticket , why did she notify the police to wait and arrest her in Kumla instead of simply throwing her off the damn train?

And what do you mean " ---she didn´t answer .." ? Is it not the conductor who said that the girl spoke very little Swedish ?
20:24 August 4, 2011 by jostein

Define racist?
09:50 August 5, 2011 by DiegoP

You should apply for a job as train personnel, I can foresee you kicking kids out of the train for twenty years because it all "looks fishy". You are a natural.
17:02 August 5, 2011 by Migga
@ Jes;

Why is my comments unintelligent?

If the conductor find a passanger who she think is 16-18, and the person doesn`t explain the situation, she must ask her to leave the train at the next station. She doesn`t need to call the police however. And most don`t. How do you think things would work out if the police had to arrest every person who hitch a ride for free?

The girl knows how to speak swedish. But when asked for a ticket by the conductor she played dumb and acted as if she didn`t know any swedish. Later on when she was found by the old crazy lady she spoke without a problem. Figure that, how convinient.

I`m saying that this story is more then what is said in the newspapers.
17:15 August 5, 2011 by zoroastrina
The putrid, rotten smell of this patently racist and xenophobic behaviour makes me retch violently with unutterable disgust. Sieg Heil! to the spirit of intolerance and inhumanity.
18:25 August 5, 2011 by Jes
@Migga , I have not yet heard that the girl "played dumb and acted as if she didn´`t know any swedish"

What I have heard is : that the condutor said that the girl spoke very little english ; and that she had no ticket

I have also heard the old lady that found the girl saying that the conductor is lying if she says that the girl could not speak swedish

I have heard the police saying that it is a crime to travel without a ticket . This mean that if anyone without a ticket " plays dumb" and refuses to speak , it becomes the conductor who has to take responsibility in the event that the passenger he/she throws out of the train turns out to be a minor/ child who , in fact , had a ticket.

We are at that stage where the conductor and her employers have to take full responsibility for the error .

It matters less what the conductor thought the girls age was . The most disturbing part of this story is that the conductors bad/ wrong judgement resulted in unpleasant conseguencies - for her , SJ , the poor girl and her family .

The tip is that it is not easy to correctly guess the age of a person from a race you do not belong to.
18:48 August 5, 2011 by Migga
@ Jes

So the female conductor is a liar? Or can it be that the passanger spoke when she saw fit?

The conductor hasn`t taken full responsibility. The company has tho but that`s strange that they can do that when the investigation isn`t even done. They are doing it to look good.

Matters less? It`s what this case is all about. It`s what it all boils down to. The passangers age or the age that the conductor thinks the girl has. It was based on what age the conductor thought the passanger had which lead her to ask her to leave the train without contacting the police. And the reason she was asked to leave at the begining was that she didn`t have a ticket or explained herself.

Race has nothing to do with this.
20:28 August 5, 2011 by David68
happens everywhere london also give people a uniform and they act like little hitlers no reasoning with these types of people im sure she said my sis is in the toliet but i bet the guard did not belve her.sack this clown of a conductor guard of what ever you call "it"and give the job to someone with a bit of common sense

just glad the kid is ok no thanks to this idiot!
20:02 October 3, 2011 by Migga
So here is the conductors side of the story;

From page 8.

So the "11 year old" and her sisters story are all a lie. They were freeloaders and the conductor was right in the way she acted. The way swedish media handeld this is disgusting. And so are many of the comments here.

The true age of this girl will probably never be known, I`d imagine she would get tossed out of the country if it was. I`d guess she is 17 years old.
