Why didn't Sweden care about topless Kate pics?

The latest issue of Swedish celebrity magazine Se och Hör, which hit newsstands on Wednesday, features a three-page spread of the former Kate Middleton, now Duchess of Cambridge, sunbathing topless in the south of France.

Ever since the pictures were first published last week by a French magazine, the British royals have made no secret of their anger, going so far as to seeking criminal charges in France.

However, the reaction in Sweden paled in comparison to the stir caused in other countries where the pictures were published.

Should the Swedish magazine and others have opted to publish the topless pictures? And what is it about Sweden that prompted such a non-reaction?

Story continues below…

What would the reaction been in Sweden had the pictures had featured a half-naked Crown Princess Victoria or her sister, Princess Madeleiene?

Well.. Media have forgotten their limit. I'm am with the cause of freedom for media, but with some limits.

Kate was in her private life, no one had right to capture her pics, and if TheLocal.se would have posted in their website. I would have been the first to delete my profile.

Don't intrude people's private life.

I think they were right to publish. Hell, once the genie is out of the bottle, why not make money on it? As for why Swedes seemed so indifferent? Well, I've seen more skin in downtown Stockholm, so maybe they just weren't racy enough to matter to those progressive Swedes. But I wonder, would the Swedish royal family sue to stop topless pics of Victoria? I think not!!!

Noone cares, because it's not interesting.

Swedes figured out a long time ago that there's nothing special about boobs.

So it's about as interesting as Kate in a swimsuit.

Which isn't very interesting. So who cares?

Quite agree with soomro.

I bet that none of the female editors would like to be portrayed in the same way. (Although seeing them I doubt sales figures would go up) It is an absolute intrusion into privacy, but then papparazzi - whether male or female - care not one iota, they would hide in the loo if they thought they could get a picture from there up someone's skirt. The lowest of the low, and the so-called magazines are only interested in money, money, money. Rubbish, the whole lot, and catering only for the morbidity of some 'readers'.

Another member of the monarchy, Count-Your-Change, feels the prince got short-changed. NOT a whole lotta woman there!!

Obviously, because they didn't have any topless photos of the Queen of Norway --- now that we'd love to view.

Probably because topless sunbathing isn't a big deal. Not sure why other countries where so fuzzed.
21:56 September 20, 2012 by frenchviking
doesn't the world have bigger problems?

why should she be more protected than anyone else? if she did not want to be famous and targeted by such paparazzi's she could have married another guy....

but if they want to be free from such attention, all they have to do is give away their useless positions and the vast sums of money that are waisted on them... it's not like the royals govern a country!

they are nothing more than celebrities, and never really did anything to become famous apart from being born...

waste of money and time!

france dealt with the issue a while back! cut the costs... ;0

Personally, I don't think this is any different than a photographer coming to my property with a 800mm zoom lens (that costs about 15000 dollars and is massive) and taking pictures of my wife topless on the balcony.

Disgusting, and I'd flip as well.

sweden beleives that eveyone is entitled to his or her private business. Sweden is not so bothered about what you do with your prevate life

it is coountry where everything goes. if it was in another country, our Prime Minister would have been sacked for his divorce. so far you dont bother me, you can do whatever you like with your life

Being naked or nude is nothing special in sweden. take a trip to the swiming pool or the beach in summer.

Standing on a terrace in the open air for all the world to see from a road, is NOT a private place,,,,!!! Whether it is 1 Metre - 10 Metres - 100 Metres or a Thousand Metres, an open air terrace which can easily be seen - from ANY distance, cannot in any shape or form be considered as private,,,,!!! And this Working-Class daughter of Working Class parents who now sell cheap Tat on the Internet, cannot start to cry 'foul',,,,!!! This attention-seeking Middleton didn't mind stripping to her knickers and walking down the Catwalk at St Andrews University, which just illustrates her [Middleton's] basic nature to 'show herself off',,,,,and to strangers as well,,,,!!! My heart goes out to Her Majesty the Queen for even more controversy bought on the Monarchy by yet another Middleton,,,,!!! Anybody remember 'the other one' - Paris and Guns,,,,???

@ systme bolaget. Working-Class daughter of Working Class parents who now sell cheap Tat on the Internet, cannot start to cry 'fou

When did it become a crime for a working class to work hard to become millionaire. the cheap tat is making millions for the family. Please tell us what you family has ever achieved. The girls were just like any other girl doing foolish things that university girls do. was harry also seeking attention by being naked. Please dont be jealous of those girls. if her boobs is of a major concern to you, by all means please yourself. we have other things to do by justifying looking at teets. jealousy is a disease.

surprising as it maybe; it is quite normal for women to have breasts. You get to see them often enough living in Sweden for them not to be of any interest. Why bother publishing stuff that is of no interest?

The only thing of any interest with this story is the invasion of privacy. You do not go taking pictures of people on their private holiday nor do you publish them without their consent. For that, the photographer and magazines that pubished the pictures should be punished.

I don't know why anyone would be interested in looking at a topless picture of that incredibly ugly Kate Middleton. And another thing; why are British people so darn ugly? The good thing about the fog in England is that it doesnt allow you to see all the ugly people around you ;-)

At least now people in Sweden know there is one Prince William, the prince has a wife and the wife has boobs.

So does mine (having boobs that is).
21:32 September 21, 2012 by sunnchilde
Her boobs are not that impressive. Now if it were Scarlett Johansson - that would be different.

swedes don't care because they think more about how something looks then how it feels.....so if someone's feelings are hurt, who cares? but if you insult their style or ruin a material onbject of theirs beware, then all hell breaks loose. nice to look at but not much more then that....take a look at rape laws and abuse crimes, very relaxed.

privacy is not an issue when you can not even say "pardon-me" when you run into some one or when everyone thinks they have the "right-of-way"....who goes first...we all do!

I wonder what the young couple really think. The British Royals are rather trapped in a rule bound world where they have to behave in a certain way and this is part of it. I would have hoped they would ignore it t while at the same time asking their minders to pour effluent on the next photographer they spotted doing this.

Mind you they could have taken the Carla Bruni approach, get the photos done yourself and then sell them. Indeed I wonder if.....

Who really cares? The tits of a royal are the same as a peasant -- it is only our acknowledgement of royals being special that makes them so.

Breasts aren't a big deal anymore, every other female celebrity has either done a topless scene in a movie or TV show or done a shoot for playboy or something. Also, it might be shocking to Brits but I honestly don't think most Swedish people even know who Kate Middleton is. I'm sure if it was one of the Swedish princesses there'd be a bigger reaction.
11:19 September 24, 2012 by rise
"Also, it might be shocking to Brits but I honestly don't think most Swedish people even know who Kate Middleton is."

That is exactly why I wrote in the way I did (#17). I wonder if most Swedes can even name the British queen? WHY should a Swede care about the royalties of Britain? Very many of us don't even care about the royalties of our own.
13:38 September 24, 2012 by eric_jo
People hardly care about their own royals anymore. Why should they care about royals of other countries?

They are just ordinary public figures (with regular human boobs and otherwise)

Kate Middleton is thus as uniteresting and insignificant as the pope or lindsay lohan
14:49 September 25, 2012 by anonymous4
We are all tired of Kate!!! She's a gold digger and everyone knows that. If Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle, and Kensington Palace were sold, there would be a great deal less debt. They are valued at £10bn minimum.

Wikipedia definition of VOYEURISM

Is the sexual interest in or practice of spying on people engaged in intimate behav iours, such as undressing, sexual activity, or other actions usually considered to be of a private nature.

The definition goes on to say that a principle characteristic of voyeurism is that the observed person generally does not know that they are being observed.

It never ceases to amaze me that there are people out there who are interested in other people's sex lives. William and Kate's intimate behaviour is no one's business but their own.

I am a bit confused by the suggestion that other 'countries' reacted...no they didn't, only the UK did, and it is pretty obvious why.
11:14 September 30, 2012 by viennacalling
Wow ! All the Publicity Worked just look at the reaction here !

Interesting that the Director Owner and major shareowner of the French and Italian magazine is the #48 worlds richest woman and the Grandmother in Law of Kate is the world richest #1

So why didn't woman#1 get on the phone to woman #48 and sort it out?

Because they are all rich and getting richer out of this !

and all the Court Costs Go to the Poor Taxpayers !

Back to the 70's when women had ambitions to be proud of their feminity and cast their bras. Boo, for the boost and bust breast boom of the present.

That said, nipples are interesting for the connaisseur. Kate's belong to the category of nympho. Lucky Duke.

Want to be offended? Get a recording of what your daughters are saying to their girlfriends. And then get a translation.

Bet your ears will be red. Lots of code words. They talk girl-talk. Cute guy comes on the subway car. One girl to the other:

"My zipper is biting me". The other girl checks him out.

Folks are so naive and ill-informed.

Who cares, nothing to see here, or there for that matter (resembled pancakes actually). On the up side, the monarchy got some free publicity. That gawd for the young, the old guard is as interesting as dry toast

Everything in Sweden is sanitised. They are not interested in boobs. They re not interested in people being diiferent. They are not interested in drugs. They are not interested in anything unless its organised in an orderly way. You might get them flustered if you dont clean out the fluff from under the drier in the tvättstuge but otherwise they JUST AREN'T INTERESTED.
