A police patrol spotted a stolen car at Fridhemsplan in Stockholm around 10pm.

Despite calling for reinforcements, the driver of the car managed to get away but only after running into three police cars.

"It was chaotic and pretty crazy," one local resident told the Expressen newspaper about the chase.

"It didn't seem like the police had full control of the situation."

During the failed attempt to block the vehicle, one officer was injured.

"One police officer was jammed between two cars," Stockholm police spokesman Sven-Erik Olsson told the Aftonbladet newspaper.

Despite the commotion, police officers managed to extricate the joyriding passenger from the stolen car.

The driver, however, managed to flee but the car was later found abandoned.

The police have opened an inquiry into attempted murder. None of the officers involved in the chase were seriously injured.
