While the real Swedish Vikings may have pillaged their last village long ago, the 21st century versions competed in the Tough Viking Race on Sunday in Stockholm - fighting obstacles of fire, water, electricity, and much more. Check out the pictures.

Nowadays you mostly see Swedes with well-combed hair and nicely fitting clothes. The idea of the their former Viking style is a distant memory.

Once in a while, however, this suppressed emotion that runs through their veins emerges - even if only for a few short hours on a Sunday afternoon.

The race, on the fields of Gärdet in north-eastern Stockholm, spanned 12 kilometres and featured 12 "brutal" obstacles from running through electrical wires, crawling through mud, and swimming through water.
