Fancy popping up to Umeå this weekend? (Or down if you're one if the few who lives further north in Sweden). The European Capital of Culture for 2014 is hosting its annual Popup festival, showcasing some of Sweden's hottest new acts. Singer-songwriter Årets Ninja tops the bill.

Stockholm is hosting Sweden's international horse festival, with thousands of animal enthusiasts expected to gallop ino the capital's Friends Arena to watch the action.

Icelandic electro is also on the menu, with up-and-coming star Ásgeir showcasing his talents at one of the city's best intimate venues, Nalen.

Meanwhile it is your last chance to tap into Gothenburg's French film season, with critically acclaimed Tom at the Farm showing (with Swedish subtitles) at the Hagabion theatre.

And winter markets are popping up across the country. Check out our guide to some of the more secret spots to do your festive shopping.
