When the producers of Swedish radio programme P4 Sjuhärad asked listeners to get in touch with odd place names they were inundated with rude and risqué suggestions.

Two of the immediate favourites were Sexdrega in Svenljunga municipality and Klitten in Dalarna, both for quite obvious reasons.

Djupröven was another suggestion and appears to cause much embarrassment for its locals as it means Deep Arse, while Snormussen (snot bog) is not a name to be sneezed at.

Like most of the other names on the list, the last two place names were previously featured in The Local's comprehensive list of Sweden's silliest place names back in 2012.

The Sjuhärad list did however include two names that we missed.

The first was the tasty Kukkola (cock caramel) in Norrbotten municipality in northern Sweden and the second was Snopptorp (penis cottage) in Eskilstuna.

That said, we fancy that deriving too much pleasure from such juvenile wordplay might mean you end up living in Ensamheten in Västerbotten. Ensamheten translates as “loneliness”.

However, strange place names could lead you to some bargain properties. As The Local reported this week, a house near Laholm has been on the market for 1,000 days and it's widely expected that the name of the village, Snorrslida (penis vagina) might be putting potential buyers off.
