With it being the week of my 58th Anniversary here I felt that quoting the timeline for my application will help put things in perspective.

June 1960 wrote to a company to enquire as to employment.
June 1960 Informal interview in a pub in Bedford with the company's rep.
8 July 1960 obtained passport.
11 July 1960 invited to Sweden for a formal interview in Gbg, job offered and accepted.
22 Sept 1960 Work Permit issued in London
WP1. Oct. '60 - Jan '61 i.e. for three months
Arrived in Sweden Monday 10th October 1960, On Swedish Lloyd's SS Britannia, drove from the quay to place of employment where my employer fixed accommodation, and I then started work after lunch the same day.
WP2. Jan '61 - April '61 i.e. for three months
WP3. April '61 - April '62 i.e. for one year
WP4. April '62 - April '64 i.e. for two years
WP5. April '64 - July '65 - an odd one for some reason or other
WP6 July '65 - July '70 followed by Permanent Uppeh?llstillst?nd.

Each renewal had to be in person, and it was never the same locale twice running but all over Gbg. Luckily my employer was very understanding.
Providing you get all your papers in order and have a job organised, it is still easy to come to Sweden. As for the other way round, for England (UK) the way many do it today is via the back of a lorry from Calais! Nuff said.

If people have to wait these days, then they are either looking for employment and have nothing organised or the job they are planning to take is not paying enough, even. It is one reason I have heard.

One thing you need to know is that Sweden has a bureaucracy that is comparable to the Mills of God, i.e. they can and often do grind exceedingly slowly. To some extent you learn to live with it. Many are the changes that have taken place over the years, after all it has been my home for over half a century. Like most countries, that is a lifetime and change is inevitable. One virtue that needed is - patience. You will get there in the end, but it can, and often does take time.
One thing I am very happy about, however, is the relatively short time between my diagnosis for cancer, and the radiation treatment that seems to be still doing its work.
Would I return to the UK? Having been back on a few holidays over the years, I can say quite truthfully - No. I am far happier here, with wife and family and the house we bought to retire to.
Unfortunately the third member of our family, our cat, has gone to join his other cats in the great beyond, and I miss that fellow more than I can say. He was always in danger of being run over by me in the wheelchair, and I still look to see if he is there. Pets become one with the family and I have lost several over the years, but now never again.

So - take heart you job-seekers and home seekers, and remember that word I gave you - PATIENCE. It will stand you in good stead. OK, it is easy for me to say at my age, but it has stood me in good stead over the years, and there is always tomorrow! And bear in mind that the only one who can say if you will like life in Sweden is the one that looks back at you from the mirror in the morning. Many cannot make it, witness all the Moaning Minnies on these columns. There are some who would not be happy in Heaven (or Hell) either. Just know that Sweden is not Utopia, but it is pretty good anyway. Just open your mind.

Now I'm off for a nice cup of Horlicks. At my age and condition it does me good.

To quote Henry Hall the BBC Guest Night leader of long ago:-

'Here's to the next time.' (If there is one)

Being on this website says you have access to the Internet. Use for to find the right way to get in contact with Migrationsverket. Don't be so b****y lazy.

Not as funny as this pathetic anti-Swedish duo. Wonder when their permits will expire. Not soon enough. The savage heebee jeebee. Making a mockery of humanity. The most stupid thing Sweden ever did was to give these two residence permits.
Hey ho.

Yep. And the supercilious heebee jeebee rants on about all his degrees. I have got degrees too. On my thermometer - and at least they mean something.
Still. Woolworth's is no more so perhaps his total will no longer increase - - - -
laugh.gif And guess what - the savage writes for the BBC as their 'business reporter in Sweden'. What a laugh. The deaf leading the blind.

Well, well, well, you old elephant prodder, putting your selfie on the Local is about your apogee at a guess. Congratulations. Rowan Atkinson is waiting for you over in the corner with his little guillotine. After that maddy is welcome to you.

I see that heebee jeebee is being his usual self, all sweetness and light.
Maybe he should be taking a look inside his pants to see if he has acquired a blobby knob after spending all that time in the elephant enclosure.
Poor elephant, getting the heebee jeebee dose. Or maybe giving it to him. You should stick to the end where the trunk is in future, laddy. That way you'll avoid the nervo.
Anyway.
Keep up the good work of ruining the Local with your mate maddy. It really has gone downhill since your arrival on the scene with all your rabbiting and its enough to make anyone tom. rolleyes.gif
Happy STD's old chap. Now go and take a ball down the frog and keep out of the bread where your china's spend their time.

I developed a trick to identify when Swedes newscasts/journalists are lying: their lips are moving!

Add to that, if you see articles undersigned Gjeebes or mad savage.

If they should decide to go on strike, then I believe you would actually find out the amount of work they have to do, simply by them not doing any at all.

Rubber stamping is easy, it is background checking that requires time, and there is plenty of that, especially when many arrive with either incomplete or even false details.

Here we go again. Page up and page down of typical heebee jeebee nonsense. Put heebe and maddy savage together and they are running the Local. Two twits - or maybe just one using two names, who knows. One a wannabee journalist who left the Local to go 'Freelance' but spends all her time cutting and pasting from the Swedish press - riding on the work their journalists have done. Free-rider more like. Then heebee, that anti-everything Swedish poster.
Once upon a time in the UK we had ARC's and UA's. When you had the second status the first was rescinded and the individual was out. Pity Sweden does not operate a similar system.
Just wishful thinking, unfortunately.
Well, these two - or this one - have ruined this website, with the continual garbage and negative attitude, so I shall return to all those wives and all those children they tell me I have left here and there, and leave them to there blow-up substitutes for life - gila puki and puki ma.

Nah, GH.
The creep gets loonier with every posting. And even wilder in the speculations. The men in white coats will be along shortly, and it will be wearing that funny jacket again.

Hey ho the merry Oh.

I see that you and maddy savage are both lying bar stewards. One thing is for sure, you would not know the truth if it were in letters ten metres high in front of you both.
Why is it I get the impression that you are also maddy savage, masquerading as a human being.
Two pathetic lying bar stewards who fabricate whatever suits you. Benefit cheating immigrants who cannot return home because you have been made persona non grata.
Two can play at your game.

laugh.gif Get back to your blow-up dolls and get yourself analyzed you creep.

Yet another load of rigmarole from that Swede-lover heebee jeebee. Page up and page down - all because he has nothing better to do than collect his benefits every month.

It's a long road that has no end, as long as it is paved with benefits eh?

Ask heebee jeebee - he would say you can't see them because they have been camouflaged as meatballs. That is all he has got on - and in - his brain.

I stand corrected, Oh great Mad Savage.

You must be in the running to take over from Leif GW as the 'Great Swedish Crime reporter', but unfortunately just a little biased and judging the criminals pre-trial to boot. I wait for the day when you get bird.

Poor Sweden, that your darkened its shores.

Too many people wanting to come here, too many benefits available. Too few working at MV to cope.
Simply too much and too many.
