I don't find the subject of WWII spoken of at all really and when I bring it up with people there isn't much of an appetite to discuss it be it Swedes, Norwegians or D ... (show full quote)

Newsflash... Finland was never in a war with Russia. They were in a war with the Soviet Union... how was it a waste of life? They kept their autonomy as a country rather than being swallowed up into the USSR. Even though they got smacked around, they dug in and kept their country.

Absolutely not!!!. They should hug and warmly embrace each other.... So why is America paying for troop presence in Germany that is there to protect them from the Russians???

My geography is a little rusty but I think Germany has a nice buffer between them and the Russians.

The British presence in Germany was withdrawn in 1991 after unification so why are the Americans still hanging around?

Newsflash. Finland lost territory to the Russians and you can call the treaty a victory for Finland but it was a major defeat for a country that flip flopped 3 times in the war.

The Russians wanted a buffer to protect them from the Germans who were in Norway and they got what they wanted.

And you can argue semantics about what to call them but we all know the USSR, Soviet Union and Russia are all the same thing.

And the US doesn't mind except Trump and his boneheads can't grasp basic ideas like "strategy".

Why are American troops still in Germany? Because it is a travel hub when they are transitioning in and out of the Middle East. So? The Germans are ok with this.

People can say what they think about the outcome between the Russians and Finns during the war...

Myself I like what a Russian General said: What did we gain??? Just about enough land to bury our dead...

I think that puts away all doubt about what happened between them...

The main victory for the Finns by the end of the war was to finally rid themselves of Stalin AND Hilter, in a war they never wanted, but got stuck with due to geographical location and having one assh%le of a neighbour to the East.

And contrary to what SkoBo's daughter is learning in a Swedish school, this topic, the Swedes pissing their pants, and the Germans burning of Lapland as they retreated to Norway, through innocent Sweden, is still very much talked about, to this day, by young and old alike.

Primarily by disgruntled folk no longer in sweden, but still grinding their axe for whatever reason.
