While Sweden may be more known for it's music scene, the Nordic nation has also had its 15 minutes of fame for feats on the silver screen. With the Academy Awards approaching, The Local takes a look back at Sweden's top five Oscar moments.

When people think of the arts scene in Sweden, it's more likely they'll be angling toward Abba or musing over Millennium.

But what about film? Sure, everyone has heard of director Ingmar Bergman, but does Sweden's reputation on the big screen extend beyond Bergman?

And let's not forget Paul NJ Ottosson who won two for sound on Hurt Locker and is nominated again this year for Zero Dark Thirty.

Surprised theres no mention of individual films like Bergman's 'Smultronstället', ('Wild Strawberries').
Some scenes stay in the memory - like the famous 'dream sequence'

EVEN After working in the Film Industry for 3 years,
I do NOT understand the 'Whooplah' of the 'oscars' -
they are nothing more than the films, actors, actresses etc -
who were chosen by Octogenarian/nonagenarian Jews in Hollywood and London (THE MEMBERSHIP)... Yawn

I think generally the Oscars are important, certainly to actors, because they generally get more work after winning or even being nominated.
Having said that, a lot of 'campaigning' goes on; once read a humorous account of how to go about it:
1) Show your hunger
2) Be a beautiful woman
3) Act humble - even if you're not. (Especially if you're not.)
4) Its MY turn
