Hi!

I am striving hard to get the hang of ordföljd. My starting point is the usual scheme one finds in text books:

Fundament - finit verb - subjekt - satsadverbial - infinit verb - verbpartikel - objekt - adverbial.

Now, I have come across this sentence which I assume it is correct and I cannot undersand it.

"För nya medlemmar av föreningen gäller således reglerna som trädde i kraft 1 september 2016."

I would have written it like this, i.e. by putting the subjekt (reglerna) in position 3 not in 2 - provided that "För nya medlemmar av föreningen" is in position 1. In other words, the satsadverbial således should follow the subject and not precede it!

"För nya medlemmar av föreningen gäller reglerna således som trädde i kraft 1 september 2016."

Why is it so? Is it some form of inversion due to the fact that the subject "reglerna" should stay closer to the som-bisats that gives more information about it?

Cheers,
mats

God I wish I understood the rules of Swedish like you seem to do. I learnt from talking to people. Is is pretty much like my native language: I know what to say but not a clue why I say it like that, just that it sounds right when spoken.
