The Local _ Newcomers _ Build a house in Sweden

Posted by: flows 27.Nov.2017, 03:14 PM

Hello there !

We are a couple who loves nature, Scandinavia, and Sweden of course. We would like to build a house in Sweden (not in the cities) but more in the middle part.

- We saw that there are a lot of building grounds for sale and we wanted to know if, as EU citizens (from France), we can buy a ground and build a house ?
- If yes, we would do season jobs in other countries in EU and live in this house few months per year. Is that possible ?
- How does it work for taxes ?
- Can we live in this house all year round if we decide to ?

If someone could give us some answers or tell us who to contact to get some answers that would be very helpful.

Thank you in advance ! smile.gif

As EU citizens you have the right of residence. You can build a house if you want to, but once you start thinking about living in it for part of the year you need to be careful. If you establish ties to Sweden you will be taxable here on your global income, in accordance with whatever is said in the dual taxation agreement between France and Sweden.

Swedes who move abroad are allowed to have a simple residence in Sweden, but it can't be suitable for all-year round use.

You need to check this with the Swedish Tax Agency.
