The Local _ Family _ Skarpnäck- looking for schooling and daycare

Posted by: walrusandpossum 9.Mar.2018, 04:48 AM

Hello! After many years of deliberation, we are finally going to bite the bullet and move over to Sweden (from Australia). We will be located in Skarpnäck and have a 7-year-old and 2-year-old. Does anyone have any suggestions for schools and daycare centres we could look into?

Also, is there such a thing as holiday programs for children so that my son can play/interact with Swedish kids over the summer? He has a personnummer- but the kind of temporary one that gets given when a child is a Swede by descent (I am led to believe that he will get a new one once he is registered at an address in Sweden).

Thank you all!! :-)

If you are both going to be working, then your kids can/will be in daycare all summer if you like, though it is probable that a dagis is closed in July. I don't know enough about Skarpnäck to have any particular thoughts on which ones. The kommune can give you a list though to a first approximation your kids will get enrolled in the nearest.

There are plenty of organised summer activities - things like sports courses are popular - though more for kids that are a bit older. In the good 'ole days, kids got sent away for the summer to camp, though that is getting rare now. For kids in primary school age, the usual after-school activities are likely to be available all day during the holidays (except maybe July).

If you aren't both going to be working...then I would try to make sure that you both are!
