I honestly believed that the American people had more sense than that. Silly me.
Well, there's not much to do now but brace for the consequences.

A popular comment making the rounds in America today is:
"Will Obama now start blaming his failures on the mess he inherited from himself?'.
The gallows humor does a good job of conveying post-election sentiment and expectations.

I thought the American people had more common sense that that. Doubling down performance of the past four years makes for pretty grim economic outlook .
That, couples with the hardened divisions in the society ensure that a very rocky road lies ahead for the US and its friends.

Hey everybody, did you get that?
fikatid went to a top 10 university!
Well, color me unimpressed because what fikatid got was an indoctrination, not an education. Truly educated people develop a bit of humility and respect as they come to discover just how much they don't know and don't fully understand.
The indoctrinated, other hand, sound much more like fikatid , with their undisciplined, emotional, self-righteous, and shrill rants and their childish caricatures.
As the saying goes, 'Ignorance of one's own ignorance is the malady of the ignorant' .
That aside, the article is pretty good. I only disagree with Mr McCormac in the result of the election. Americans will not choose four more years of the same - it's simply unsustainable. The crowd turnout at the candidates respective rallies tells the story: Romney will win this one.

I oftentimes find European comments regarding American politics simultaneously amusing and tragic.
It's amusing to see wildly off base the conclusions uttered with such certitude and stridency. One almost feels embarrassed for the speaker's disconnect from the reality because in many cases, it's not the individual's fault.
It's sad because so many conclusions are based on bad and/or incomplete information. People do not get the full story from the media. On both sides of the ocean, the media is guilty of two sins: sins of commission and sins of omission. The result is selective, biased reporting designed to create a desired narrative. Instead of providing all the facts so that one can form their own conclusion, the media presents is what they want you to believe.
A fine example is Sveriges Radio. Whenever the topic of America comes up, it's like taking a trip to an alternate universe. The listener does not get a report. They get get as you get a presentation trying to drive you to a predetermined conclusion about how you should think and what you should believe. It's truly sad. It reminds me of a cattle drive.
But this same distorted presentation of the news happens in the American Media as well. This bias created a huge market for Fox News because people knew that instead of the full story, they were getting agenda-driven narratives from mainstream media. Fox News stepped into this new reporting void and is now vilified by the Left because they dare challenge the monopoly on the narrative they once held on the narrative. (There are also a couple British reporters who report on America more accurately than the legacy American media. Hats off to them.)
Fox News is extremely disturbing to prejudiced Lefties pursuing their confirmation bias. It truly 'harshes their mellow' to have their ideas challenged and contradicted.
Yes, The "Be tolerant or we will destroy you' crowd' gets very angry when people have the temerity to suggest that there may be more than one side (their side) to a story.
Isn't that true, fikatid?

It feels like there will be a very low voter turnout for Obama tomorrow. There's nowhere near the enthusiasm for him that there was in 2008. It's probably a result of his very poor performance. He delivered next to nothing of what he promised and in many ways the nation is in worse shape than it was four years ago.
In conrast, Republican voters are hightly motivated and enthusiastic.
Anticipate a Romney win by a decisive margin.
Wednesday's controversy will probably be about how the US media is so out of touch with reality, and instead caught up in their own echo-chamber of wishful thinking and projection.

In the past four years, Obama has proven himself incompetent, a narcissist, unwilling to live up to his promises, and very, very bad with money . These character traits are highly offensive to more than just our Swedish sensibilities here in America.
Now if people some want to think that's a racial thing, or that such things are to be excused because of race, that's their problem . They can scream till they are blue in the face.
One of Mitt Romney's first tasks as President will we restoring some dignity and respect to the office of the Presidency . Fortunately, it will be one of his easier challenges as dignity comes naturally to the man.

The bottom line is that when you find yourself in serious trouble it will be the Americans doing the rescue, sending the assistance, or manning the ramparts - with Canadians and Brits oftentimes along side them.

If you have to rely on anyone else, the odds are that you are probably screwed.

@Grokh
Programmeny has it right. You forfeit your right to choose to the government, so that you can have the government provide for you. Then you try to claim the moral high ground, thinking there is something noble about abdicating personal responsibility, decision making, and accountability to government bureaucrats. It's ridiculous.
You should get yourself a tattoo that reads 'Born to be a Serf'.

If portraying Sweden as a sick, dark, and twisted dystopia was the objective, then the Millenium series would have to be considered a success.
There is no redeeming value in Larsson's negativity . It's the sort of thing that only a nihilist could love.

If this Löfven character really thinks there's something constructive that he can learn from Obama, one would be well advised to keep sharp objects far, far away from this man.

So much ill will towards America! Four years of paying for their insane 2008 election mistake is enough. Wishing another four years of Obama madness on the people is just plain malice.

As 'equality minister', she's clearly engaged in a conflict of interest.

This is the common denominator between all those with careers in the grievance industry. They will never put themselves out of a job.

sorry eppie, but there are simply too many stories of people rising up out of 'disadvantaged' circumstances simply by applying themselves that contradict the helpless victim narrative.

@StockholmSam
You need to ask those kids in Watts why they turned their schools in zoos, refuse to study, drop out. They've chosen to torch their opportunities. Those school were not always failing schools. they were turned into failing schools. Those neighborhoods were once respectable. They were turned into areas to avoid.
And it certainly doesn't help matters when you have a group that finds political power in encouraging victim mentality and promoting dependency upon government. It's a hugely corrupting influence.
But I don't need to explain this to you, you can watch it happen yourself in Rosengård.

@ procrustes - 'In the USA there is no, nor has there ever been, equality of opportunity.'
What absolute nonsense! Your statement is true only for those who choose to wallow in a cesspool of envy and self-pity.

You need to keep up with the times. The world's biggest polluter is China and they have zero interest in any of these environmental concerns.

There are too many freeloaders in America to pull that off.
