As an alternative to stickies why not compile a Frequently Asked Questions with a perma-link at the top of the Discuss page(s)? I'd be willing to work on it myself - unpaid - if it's agreed that it's a good idea.

I won't take me coat off because I won't be staying long ...

I'm not sure how welcome any comments of mine might be given that I exhausted my gnat-sized attention span long ago and found other pursuits with which to occupy myself, but as someone who has argued in the past for moderation I feel like throwing something in here. The point is that moderation needs the right approach to be successful: if you don't govern by consent then in the long run you'll find that you have no-one left to govern (or no-one who's prepared to stick their necks out to make interesting posts anyway). Editing posts without the consent of the poster is crass and patronising, deleting posts and threads without explanation is tyrannical.

Bad moderation is worse than no moderation at all, so if you can't get it right don't do it.

Aren't we the anti-boycott?

Overall, you scored as follows:

45% scored higher (more nerdy),
1% scored the same, and
54% scored lower (less nerdy).

What does this mean? Your nerdiness is:

Somewhat nerdy. I mean face it, you are nerdier than about half the test takers.

Stuck in the middle. Story of my life ...

Just Amsterdam?

It wasn't my statement but it appears that possession and/or sale of cannabis is illegal (even in Amsterdam), although the penalties are light and the laws rarely enforced.

QUOTE (Keithy)
I'm baffled by the moral outrage in here about prostitution. If you want to protect prostitutes, have them officially licensed and let them work where they are safe, getting rid of the pimps and providing safe and sanitary environments and help for those with addiction problems. Pretending it doesn't or shouldn't exist is not progressive, just unhelpful, and backwards.

BTW, if you don't want to visit a prostitute, don't. If you don't want to be a prostitute, don't.

BTW2, cannabis is not legalised in the Netherlands.

Precisely, but you and I are in a minority in believing so.

Silly woman. I used to find her stuff readable until she fell completely off the far right edge into pro-Creationist anti-science ranting. She's become a less shrill British version of Ann Coulter.

I think you are confused. The President Elect of the US is Mr Obama. Who is not a Muslim. No charge.

You're wrong there, I'm afraid. See 'Obama would be the first Muslim President' in http://www.conservapedia.com/Barack_Obama

The preceding section headed 'Mind Control' is a mind-boggler too.

Exactly. I'm sat here with a picnic ice pack on my foot because I think I've broken my toe (tripped over Bloody Dog!) and have absolutely no money to go to the hospital.

It's been pointed out to me that my original wording was clumsy. I've never actually gone without medical treatment, but things were kind of hairy when we first came here.

QUOTE (Princess P)
In the UK all doctors and treatments eg hospital visits, physio etc in the NHS are free (ie comes out of taxes already paid). Dentist and optitions are subsidised and free for certain groups. Medicines have a fixed, low charge which is the same regardless of the cost of the medicine. Medicines are free to certain groups and certain medicines are free to all who use them, such as contraceptives, heart medication and diabetic stuff.

In my opinion it's better than the Swedish system because you don't have to pay to see a doctor, even if he has to come out to your house in the middle of the night. And it's worse than the Swedish system because, in my experience, the level of care is not a patch on what I've received in Sweden.

In my own experience the level of care here is nothing like as good as I received in the UK, and this has nothing to do with the level of skill or training of Swedish doctors, but with our inability to find money to allow us to see a doctor in the first place. The fact that I have to pay for prescriptions here makes a big difference too.

To be English and feel comfortable naked... just get really drunk... you'll see many Brits getting their clothes off in Spain, Greece, even in the UK.

I feel perfectly comfortable naked and I don't need to be drunk - more than I can say for most Swedes I've met so far.

Ahem.

The proper grammatical pluralization of penis is "penii," pronounced "PEE nye."

Thanks, and have a nice day.

Webster is quite happy with 'penises'.
