The Local _ Life in Sweden _ New Job Offer Questions

Posted by: Schatten_J 15.Jul.2019, 12:31 PM

Greetings,

I have some questions regarding a job offer I have received.

The salary is 36000 SEK. How much would I get after taxes monthly while living in Stockholm? Is that an ok salary for IT industry?

Do I need to subscribe myself to a labour union or is it automatic?

How much is the yearly inflation raise and when does it take place?

I live in a different region, but there should be some figures around with the different tax levels. (shouldnt differ that much though)
In my case it's a little bit less then 1/3 that's taken for tax.

So I think you should get around 25000/26000 after taxes?

I dont know what kind of IT work it is, so cant say if it's right wink.gif Be sure to ask about vacation days also.

Inflation raise..I'm not sure since I work just for a few months now.

And you need to subscribe to a labour union yourself. (they got extra insurances if you are forced out/something else happens) + they can provide a lot of info about salaries and stuff.
From what I heard is that most of the working people are subscribed to one.
costs around 200/300sek a month.

Thank you for your answer!

Do you any suggestions regarding which union to choose?

The offer includes 30 vacation days? Is that number standard for Sweden?

Well, i'm at this one: www.unionen.se
But just because some colleagues say it's a good/big one..
(did a little bit of research, but not that much)

There are some special union's for tech/engineering/medial fields too, but i'm not sure if there is a benefit to the one like I'm subscribed too.
(I think it's more about salaries of different working fields, and some more specific knowledge about that)
And they are a lot smaller then ones like Unionen.

36000 sek is NOT a very good salary for an experienced dev in Stockholm, it's marginally higher than a junior wage.

Like Alra said Unionen is quite decent, have the same since many years. Before jumping to conclusions about your role in IT is it as a Dev, support, or? Take note that per role the salaries are different, so check that out. Here are some statistics based on last year:

https://www.scb.se/en/finding-statistics/statistics-by-subject-area/labour-market/wages-salaries-and-labour-costs/wage-and-salary-structures-and-employment-in-the-primary-municipalities/pong/tables-and-graphs/average-monthly-salary-by-occupation/

And regarding tax it is per Kommun, and on the site of Skatteverket you can see what your exact percentage would be:
https://www.skatteverket.se/privat/skatter/arbeteochinkomst/skattetabeller.4.18e1b10334ebe8bc80005221.html#!/start

I think there is a one procent that goes to the Swedish Church, which is not required to pay. I am an atheist so I skipped that percentage..

Just my 2 cents...
