I have applied to -

1. Master's in Embedded and Intelligent Systems, Halmstad University - IN PROGRESS

2. Master's in Electrical Engineering, specialisation Signal Processing & Wave Propagation, Linnaeus University - QUALIFIED Eligible without merit-based evaluation (ÖS)

3. Master Programme in Solar Energy Engineering, Dalarna University - IN PROGRESS

4. Master's in Electrical Engineering with emphasis on Telecommunication Systems
Blekinge Institute of Technology- QUALIFIED Guaranteed place (PG)

As I understand ÖS is Other applicants, Applicants who do not have the applicable qualifications to earn a merit rating in one of the relevant selection groups. But I believe I have the applicable qualifications and should be considered for APAV group.

Did it happen to anyone else?

I just saw my transcript does not have ECTS on it, even though my university works with ECTS sad.gif I have a 4 year BA. Do you think I'm gonna have a problem? Are they gonna assume I have 240 credits?

Do you have a diploma or just the transcript? The number of years/semesters should be stated somewhere.

I have both the degree and the transcript, they both state the number of years and semesters detailed, but I don't have ECTS credits.

I just saw a disheartening and surprising development on my account at UAS- I am unqualified in 3 out of my 4 choices. The other choice is still in progress.

I am "unqualified" for allegedly not meeting upto 180 ECTS or equivalent. I believe this is unfounded because I hold a 4-year(8 semesters) bachelor degree from my home country(Nigeria), with a grading system of ABCDE and F(fail). A has 5points, B has 4points, C has 3points, D has 2points, and E has 1point. This points are then multiplied by the unit credit of the course which can be 2,3,4 or 6. For example my bachelor essay was 6credit unit, A score of B in the essay will give the student 6x4= 24 credits out of possible 30credits.

I think the universities I applied to in Sweden just counted the unit credits on my transcript and came to the conclusion that I don't meet 180 ECTS. This to me is really strange because so many people in my country(Nigeria) and home university has no problem gaining masters admission in other developed countries like the UK, US, Canada, Australia, Norway and even Sweden etc.

I don't know how Universities in Sweden calculates and reaches decision of whether an applicant meets the general entry requirements or not. Does any one have an idea of the criteria they use in calculating ECTS credit.

Hey people, I believe the total credit in my bachelor degree should be worth at least equivalent of 240 ECTS. How do I remedy this impasse and ensure my degree is recognized accordingly.

I think it should be fine then – I mean, it's probably generally understandable that each year corresponds to 60 ECTS in this case. But who knows, mine was a 3,5 years long one and I still think they may accidentally count it as 180 anyway wink.gif

Well, I believe you should fill and upload the appeal form and make them count the points again... Most likely just a mistake.

Hi Nkemjika,

Did you receive a message in the "My messages" tab telling you that you do not fulfill the entry requirements? I received the following message and it makes me really anxious:

QUOTE
You do not currently fulfill the entry requirements for admission. Applicants to master's programmes must have completed undergraduate studies that are equivalent to three years of study at a Swedish university, i.e., a bachelor's degree equivalent to a Swedish kandidatexamen (180 HE/ECTS credits).

If you have other university studies (courses and programmes) that you have completed but have not notified us of, please submit official documentation of these studies as soon as possible.

Please submit your documentation as soon as possible to University Admissions in Sweden. Your application will not be processed further until all requested documents have arrived here. If you submit your documents after the deadline, your application will be considered late. Late applications may be considered by the university if there are places available after on-time applications have been processed and admissions selection has been completed. Please note that if you've submitted your documents so that they arrive after the deadline, in most cases you must reapply to the courses you wish to be considered for in order for your new documentation to be reviewed. You can read more about reapplying at Universityadmissions.se.

I think it came from UniversityAdmissions and not from the universities I applied to because all of them still have "in progress" status. What worries me is that the universities might not even look thoroughly at my application just because UniversityAdmissions already identified me as ineligible sad.gif

Hey, smoked; I'm not much of an expert but I suspect one of two things: one is, if you are in your final year of your Bachelor program in your home country and hadn't uploaded the 'Statement of Enrollment Status' to show that you are heading to a complete degree before the start of the Masters' program, then this could be the cause of the message; or two, if you have completed your Bachelor program, check out this site http://employers.grb.uk.com/international-degree-equivalents. It compares all international degrees to the UK but you can use it to see your country's qualifications as compared to the Swedish bachelor’s degree (kandidatexamen)- with the UK one as a reference, get it!!

Apart from that, I'm as clueless as anyone else as to the inner workings of UAS.

And Nkemjika, I'm from Tanzania and I used the site above. Check it out and, if it seems to be equivalent, try to contact Admissions. I, on the other hand, am still IN PROGRESS. mellow.gif

Hi Smokesardines

I did not receive such message in "my message" tab. I only got the "unqualified message " in the status below the programs I applied for.

I have resolve to send a strongly worded email to university admissions in Sweden and the institution involved. Another funny thing is that one of the schools in Sweden also wrote that I don't fulfill the English requirement whereas my country(Nigeria) is exempted from any English proficiency test because English is our official language and the language of instruction in our institutions. This is clearly stated in the country-specific requirements for Nigeria on UAS website

Thank you for the link. It was helpful. I glanced through the link and I saw that a Nigerian bachelor degree with honours( Which is the type of degree I hold) is equivalent to the standard British bachelor degree) which is also equivalent to the Swedish bachelor (kandidatexamen) degree. I think I will mail UAS for clarification . Cheers.

Nkemjika,
check this: https://www.universityadmissions.se/en/All-...esults/Appeals/

It may be a better way than just writing them an email; I had to contact them before and all the responses I got looked like automatically generated with no relevance to my question wink.gif
