what nonesense. The british like no better than to mock themselves, any self respecting Sun reader knows that. Criticism of the tube and rail is a national pastime.

That having been said, foreign criticism often meets with hostility because it is often seen as being misinformed, informed context being the mother of all irony.

I think you summed up most posts on this site quite nicely!
Of course foreign critisism is misinformed as it does not conform to the status quo Truth.

Qute. independence day, not Victory day. The USA never existed before 1776, so how could it be invaded per se?

and anyway AIB, Japan was the last counrty to attack US soil. Not that that undermines the yankee right to celebrate their freedom or mock their redcoated oppressor.

We also have to remember that the litterary age the sun is written for ten year olds and fundamentally consists of pictures. Also it's 'read' *stiffles giggles* primarily by the lowest echelons of bristish society, the same group of people that think it's cool to be thick, to be the most illiterate, inumerate ignorant philistines,, to be able to drink their obese wifes weight in lager, have nothing to talk about other than football, think it's a great practical joke to physically asault people (just for the laugh), who's best life experience was the time when they and Jackie (his best freinds wife) got drunk out their heads that one time in Mahrbya (marbella) and tried to have 'a quicky' but had a severe case of brewers droop, and also, wouldn't know where Germany is even if it invaded their arse goose stepping, wearing jack boots, and a war helmet with a 6 inch spike on the top.

That is all.

A very tiny percentage of countries in the world today existed proper states back in those days. Doesn't take from the fact they still showed their unwelcome guests the door.

nonetheless my point that Britain did not INVADE the US stands. If anything the US was invaded by a bunch of stinking, god fearing dimwits who proceeded to commit mass genocide against the indigenous peoples.

Yes unfortunately they are and that, my little indignant, is the reason Britain is going to the dogs.

The british have every right to mock the germans for as long as it is that Germany was the last country to threatan to invade britain. Indeed, for as long as millions of british soldiers died defending their nation from the hun. The fact the british are so good humoured about the whole affair is testament to their good character.

You conveniently forget that it was Britain that declared war on Germany, not the other way round.[/quote]

One of the best threads I've read on here for ages. Eciym is a hell of a social commentator, by the way.

That said, the Sun does have some hilarious headlines now and again.
