Does anyone know of any retreats in or around Stockholm?

I cannot find any.

By retreat, I mean a place to go for solitude and private, individual contemplation for some days/nights, such as a monastery or other such place, where one can stay in a private room or cell.

I do not mean organised "new age" venues for collective/group yoga and so on.

It's a serious question, so no jokey responses please.

I think that most religous organisations have such places, usually with minimal strings attached - if you ask, so shall you receive, as the saying goes.

The Quaker faith is a nice quiet contemplative one - maybe start with them...

My favourite retreat?

I know of such a place where I can ''go for solitude and private, individual contemplation for some days/nights.''

it's not stockholm area, but i know that the birgitta nuns in vadstena (vättern lake, about 2.5 hours from stockholm) rent out rooms.

you could contact them and ask if they know of anything in the stockholm area.

Hi, i suppose you can remain quite on your own in stockholm .. or walk in the park or peddle in the sea .. or you can just rent a secluded place outside of stockholm ..anywhere really and you will be in surprise .. there is nothing but solitude .. but mind me you have to leave your head behind totally.. else no matter where you will go .. you will not find it ..

I observe every sunday a total solitude without leaving the city and i find it equally good. Point is to stay inside the heart ..

there is a buddist center in varmdö .. and check couple of yoga center in the city .. they will guide you ..

I myself am going for a silent retreat in india (in ashram) .. this is meditation retreat really where you meditate almost all the time and contemplate on whi you are :-)
