i know it's not that vital an issue, and in fact i find the "mini-film"-type ads on UK TV a bit of a waste of money...but why are the Swedish ads so bland and dull? are they really not that interested in pushing their products effectively?

It's not always true, sometimes I find certain advertisements potentially really effective.

they are pretty uninspiring at times. so many of them put their message across with 3 or 4 white words on the screen after the initial blurb. seems a bit "Soviet" at times when compared to advertising in other nations. but then...what do you expect? it's hard enough getting a Swede to smile or say "hi" at times. communication is a weird concept here!

Oh I hate Swedish TV adverts... It's all Food, food, mobile phones, food, more junk food... When with friends, if they switch on the TV I usually end up craving crappy unhealthy foods <.< And there are so many adverts! I swear they last longer than they should do.
You can tell I'm not a fan ![]() |

The worst are the adverts for those casino websites for your mobile phone. The games look so boring like fruit machines. Oh and the countless sports betting websites. Anyone would think Sweden is full of gambling addicts.
My fav ones are the "3" adverts but they're probably not Swedish in origin. |

Creativity and new ideas are generally not appreciated in the swedish advert industry. The sponsors want to play safe and just get the message across.

I doubt it's that creativity is not appreciated. It's more likely that in Sweden they have more metrics in place to measure the success of adverts which they pay attention to. It's probably the case that the simple adverts are most successful anyway rather than the ones with the latest graphical effects. What you have in Sweden is more of a conservative advertising budget rather than the ethos in UK to spend spend spend. So you could argue they are ahead of UK in that sense.
Why not play safe to get the message across if you know it works. |

Because Sweden as a marketplace is very small and there are few returns for making an ad that will be seen by max 9 million.

Swedish adverts are boring as hell, which is why I have a mental blockage against wathcing their crap. I need a reason to sit around and watch ads during commercial breaks. It's not like the good old days when international adverts had humour, entertainment value and good storylines.

Whilst on Sky there are many mads that are better than the programmes.
I can remember the days whenthat comedian Tony Hancock had a sketch where he timed his viewing to coincide with the ads, leaving the programmes out wherever he could. That said, so many ads these days seem to feature "things with wings that absorb blue liquids best', or for shampoos that make your hair whatever - because you are worth it! At least in Sweden we have been spared the boring tenor in the 'Go Compare' ad. He was so boring they had to change and 'get rid' of him in different ways. But at least there was variety. Ads here are defiitely a time for making that cup of coffee, or a visit to the loo or whatever. No imagination, no inventiveness, no - feeling - not even for the product. I like those programmes that show the worst ads ever, even international ones, and there Sweden usually features. |

If you think Swedish ads are boring, wait until you see Finnish ones
