Parents of a 16-year-old girl taken to hospital after a car crash in central Sweden were shocked at having to find out about the incident through Facebook.

"One would expect to be told when something like this happens to your underage child. This is a nightmare," the teen's mother told newspaper Arbetarbladet.

The accident occurred early on Tuesday morning in Sandviken, 190 kilometres north of Stockholm. The 16-year-old girl was a passenger in a car driven by an 18-year-old man who lacked a driver's licence.

Just before 1am, the car crashed into another vehicle, seriously injuring a 55-year-old man. The 18-year-old driver has since been questioned on suspicion of drunk driving, according to the local police.

You allow your 16yr old daughter to ride around all night with drunk adult men and when surprise, surprise something happens you have the nerve to complain to the police that nobody told you. I hope these parents are reported, prosecuted and tarred & feathered to serve as an example to all other non-attentive parents that put their kids out on the streets to harass, burglarize, assault and irritate the rest of us!!!
