Nothing funny. The person who made that post about GDPR subsequently requested that their account and posts be deleted. Hence that post was deleted.

If anyone wants their account and/or posts deleted, simply email us at [email protected] This has always been the policy, as stated in the privacy policy linked in the footer, and it will continue to be the policy indefinitely even after closure.

There are two threads about the same subject. As this one is longer at 30 pages, it is now closed.

We asked our readers across Europe what surprised them most about working and living in Europe. This is what they had to say. http://bit.ly/2PiGiiF

Sigtunaskolan Humanistiska L?roverket. The name of this bilingual boarding school is a bit of a mouthful for non-Swedish speakers, but even those with no knowledge of the language whatsoever can probably make out that ?humanistic? is the central word in the school?s name. It?s also a central element of its approach to education.

@Gamla H?lsingebock the post you replied to titled "Our physical reality is a dream" was spam. That spam was deleted, hence your reply went with it. Beware that spammers often post something innocent initially, as a test, then they follow up with the real spam later.

Stockholm posts belong in the Stockholm section. That's where yours moved to.

Sorry for the break in the spam button.

We upgraded a software package, and the upgrade was incompatible with the spam script.

It's now fixed.

User "immigrantio" was banned for a combination of two reasons: 1. being persistently rude to other forum members, and 2. writing with such poor English that many of their posts were not understandable to anyone. They then attempted to bypass the ban by opening seven new accounts: "immigrantio2", "immigrantio3", etc. through to "immigrantio8". These were subsequently banned also, sometimes by admin, sometimes by other members.

Uncle Fred, you have correctly used the "Spam" button to report spammers. This is the blocking action that others have mentioned. You reported spam once two days ago, and a couple of times in February. Maybe you forgot you clicked it, but the actions do not look suspicious, nothing has been hacked.

Good point, Johno. The "Crime reports" section is now excluded from the Today's active topics list.

And Fred, I think it's pretty clear that the section name refers to Sweden only. Afterall, this is a Sweden site, and the section is placed within the "Swedish news" section. If non-Sweden crime reports are posted they'll be deleted. If it becomes a problem we can rename, but I think it'll be OK.

On the one hand, I don't want to delete the postings because then we would be accused of trying to hide the news or stifle conversation.

On the other hand, the persistent heavy flow of crime reports to the "Swedish news" section is drowning out all other news-related discussions.

So as a trial solution I have split the forum section into two. We now have Swedish news and Crime reports. Hopefully it is self-evident which posts belong where.

This site has now switched from HTTP to HTTPS, which should help make it more secure.

Unfortunately this had a side effect of breaking the spam report button. That is now fixed.

Hi everyone,

A few of you have reached out to us here at The Local regarding the spamming we're seeing across the forum. Firstly, we'd like to apologies for any inconvenience this is causing and reassure you that we will be trying to resolve the issue in the near future.

Although I can't communicate any dates at this point, we are looking to update our forum software, which will ultimately protect against this type of spam. We hope to have made the transition by early next year, but when I know more specific dates I will communicate them to you all.

Oliver

Hello everyone,

You may have noticed that in the last few days the forum has been inaccessible. Sorry about that.

We've been making changes to the database in order to separate our newsletter registrations from our forum registrations. (Not everyone wants both.) It took longer than we thought it would...

Anyway, everything's back up and running now but if you have any problems, please email [email protected]

Kind regards,

The Local

Awash with mixed feelings about what to expect on Valentine's Day in Sweden this year? Two single expats offer up their take on how to survive (or thrive) the not-always-celebrated holiday.

Finding romance abroad can be hard, something many single expats in Sweden know first hand. Different customs, different styles... not to mention different languages can all contribute to making it hard to hook up with that special someone.

While Valentine's Day has been widely celebrated in the US and the UK since the mid-1800s, it was only in the 1960s when Swedes began to catch on to the commercial aspects of the holiday inspired by early Christian saints and cemented into the cultural conscience by Chaucer's love birds.

We were alerted yesterday to a problem with the password reset function.

If you had tried to reset your password then you would have been permanently locked out of the site.

This problem has now been fixed. Password resets on locked-out accounts should now work again.

Yes, this is a known problem. We're working on it.

By the way, if your username contains an accented character then you won't be able to post on the forum at all currently.

We're working to fix that too. See the related thread: Problems logging into the forum

On October 30th this year we upgraded the software that powers The Local's news pages.

Unfortunately this broke access to the discussion forum for some users.

We have determined two errors, one of which might apply to you, as follows:
  • Previously when logging in, you could enter either your username OR your registered email address into the "Username" field. Both of these still appear to work for logging into the site. However if you log in with your email address the forum pages will not work. So the temporary work around is to always log in with your username only, then you should be able to post to the forum as before.

  • If your username contains non-standard alphanumeric characters, then again, you might still appear to be able to log into the site without errors, but you won't be able to post to the forum. For example usernames that contain the accented characters will fail. Unfortunately there is no temporary workaround for this error.
We are working to fix both of these problems in the next few days and will update on this thread once it's done.

The problem with accented characters also applies to posting on the forum.
See the related thread: Accented characters are broken on the forum

But that's irrelevant, isn't it Rick.

If you don't like the site, don't read it.

If you don't like the ads, use adblock or, as above, simply don't use the site.

Don't come here, expect to receive services for free, and then complain about it.

Just because you post to the forum, that doesn't give you any entitlement. We don't owe you anything.

Every interactive site on the internet has spam buttons: Gmail, Facebook, you name it.

Now The Local's forum has one. Ten years late to the party, but better late than never.
