A couple of days ago someone (sorry, I can't remember your name) made a post about the forum, posts and GDPR after the forum closes.

This post has been deleted yet all the other posts with abuse, slagging Sweden off and so on remain untouched. That really makes no sense at all.

You can guess GDPR goes against The Local's interests which is ironic given how pro-EU they are.

Listening to P4 news yesterday and I was glad to hear that at last Skatteverket at beginning to look at homes that have multiple occupants.

This is addresses where there seems to be an unusual amount of people living there. So a 2-room apartment with 5 occupants or a house with 5 occupants.

They said the new investigation is for 4 reasons.

1) To cut down on illegal apartment subletting (self-explanatory)
2) Tax evasion (people register elsewhere for lower tax, insurance and so on)
3) Immigration issues (people claiming to live in Sweden when they have left, see below)
4) Fraud (barnbidrag, sjukpenning, bostadsbidrag, socialbidrag, a-kassa, etc.)

In my time here I have known people doing each of the above. It was quite common for people to have a weekend home or summer house and they would register themselves there because the tax and car insurance were cheaper.

People sell their apartments illegally and 'live' there for 3 years while the new person qualifies to take over 1st hand contract.

I've known people move outside the country to work and no tell the authorities. They then come back once a year to keep up the pretence so they can qualify for permanent status or citizenship.

And linked to above, some of the same people do it to keep receiving government money, particularly a-kassa. sick pay and child allowance.

In tough times it seems the government wants to stamp down on this kind of thing.

We can see a lot of information on an address as normal people such as what cars people own, if they have a dog, their tax declaration, etc. but the government sees everything including how many children are registered at an address.

So one of the things they are looking at are dormant people, or people who don't have low levels of income. While they do not have the right to look into our bank accounts they can see how many accounts we have, the tax we pay and at two intervals they get a 'snapshot' of how much money is in the accounts. This is what makes up the tax declaration which includes shares, debts and so on.

As Glenn Frey sang, the heat is on!

Also closing it on the 25th is a weird date. Why on a Thursday? Why not a Sunday? Why not on the 28th, the end of the month? By some strange coincidence the last day of the month is on a Sunday.

So the 25th has to have some significance.

Not the best areas to work in as a foreigner since both have a lot of "local" elements. But you could try large international companies, Ericsson, H&M and so on. Maybe send spontaneous applications to such companies.

You could aim lower to get your foot inside, my workplace has a few "assistants" that helps with ordering stuff including contractors, helping managers with meetings and room reservations, handling bigger meetings and other administration.

I have the opposite experience as TheExpatEagle, Swedish is spoken when there is Swedish speakers only in a team or a in a meeting, otherwise it is English.

I guess it could depend where in the country too. In the south there has been a 'war' on English over the past 11 years with it being actively banned being spoken in schools (apart from English classes) and at companies (apart from lunch time).

This has been documented on Radio Sweden on a number of occasions and it is since 2010 when Swedish was made the official language of Sweden.

Since that time there has been less English news made available. Radio Sweden reduced their daily news podcasts from 30 minutes to 3 minutes, for example.

Ya, smaller is bigger! And why can't you understand that a published, highly cited scientist can indeed call a Sweden a nation of MeatBalls? I've been doing that since I lived there, and even more since I left.

It's really not that hard to grasp. It's like saying you can't be a cpfc fan because you of your problem with choking on your own slobber. Sure you can! And I would guess you are not the only cpfc fan who nearly dies each hour, without 3rd-party assistance.

I will miss your constant emotional outbursts because you can't handle that someone might think Sweden is shit, just because you don't. You are one dimensional; perfect for the MeatHeads. No wonder you feel at home there.

But you are still young, what was it, 8 years old, gauging by the "quality" of your "contributions" here. There is hope you will one day grow up, although it isn't likely to happen whilst you hide from life, in the Greasy Meatball.

Because neither describe you!

To be fair they can delete any comments in this forum whenever they want to so...

Having set up and run forums it is perfectly easy in the software to prohibit people from having multiple accounts from the same IP address, introduce a warning system, have watch words and so on.

This place has just been used to generate Google search hits to direct traffic but I guess the risk versus reward isn't enough anymore.

I am not fluent in Swedish yet but managed to find a role in Human Resources. I think it is easier to look for HR roles within tech as often English is the business language, especially in cities. Another option is to look for a role in Admin and then build a network from there to find a more suitable position. I find more HR jobs are posted on Linkedin than on AF.

The problem isn't what the business language is in it's communicating with the people you work with.

A number of years ago I worked for Dell Enterprise support (the business servers) and everything was in English. We logged all the information in English, had English literature and a lot of the customers spoke English.

We had to communicate to each other in the office in Swedish. That was the workplace language because there were people there who couldn't speak so much English (there were other departments and people working there) and they felt alienated.

Even we who had English as a 1st language had to speak Swedish. I don't see why speaking Swedish in Sweden is such a difficult concept for people to understand.

As I said, try moving to the UK and insisting on only speaking French or German and see how long it takes you to get a job.

Well, at least you didn't miss the point. With your rose-tinted glasses, I'm sure you're quite a thrill for your audience of woke, politically correct INCELs.

By the way, shit-for-brains, the article cites Swedes, not wannabe Swedes such as yourself. Why not have a go at them, instead of anonymous thread contributors?

Oh, right, because you are a self-important moron. I will be quite happy to be rid of assholes such as yourself, once this forum dies.

You can leave at any time so why do you keep coming back if it's such a problem for you? Because you are a self-important arsehole, not me! Ironic?

Oh, so you do have a sense of humour, I missed that. But good you finally see the humour in it. And by the way, I did not coin the term, a friend of mine did, and I use it to honour him.

You don't have a friend and the term isn't amusing. It's just childish.

Haha, you are so retarded! The fact you reply to that non-sense just says it all really! Man, you are the joke here!

And yes, I am "A loser lates losing"!

Also hilarious is that you revel in the forum closing when it is really only you who gives a damn. I don't waste my time online, anywhere but here, because I have an off-line life. You call me a loser but then list off all your artificial INCEL activities online because you have simply nothing off-line except your sock-puppet and rotten veggies, as if it would be some kind of accomplishment!

Well, I guess it is for lonely snowflake woke PC-tards who have zero contact with actual humans such as yourself.

And, to top it off, YOU are still in MeatHeadia! So basically anything can happen to me, and I'm still winning, you little pencil-necked geek!

Now if you'll excuse me, I must get back to finishing some revisions, so I can have my next article published! And you were right! I don't have a book! I have research articles, and invited chapters, in edited books. You must be a humanities major if your idea of publishing in sciences is limited only to books.

But then again you have been educated in MeatHeadia, and received a highly deserved useless degree by sailing through endless "group work" to which you contributed nothing!

Good luck retard! You'll need it!

The thing is, you don't know what you don't know. And you will never know because you go off looking for me with a name that I only use here and 1 other place, which can't be searched for.

You find other people called Expat Eagle, there are a lot of us particularly Americans, yet you still have an obsession.

I might be a sad loser but I'm not the one pretending to be a scientist, a published scientist, calling Swedes meatballs. Oh how witty and adult. You must be the smart one in your family. More MENCAP than MENSA.

I'm more than happy with my projects and it eats you alive that you can't find them. Sorry pooch, it's for adults not still little man babies like you.

Thirteen days and counting then you will be pissing in the wind. I'm smiling at the thought of how lonely you'll be and how like a loon on the street you'll run up to passers by say meatballs and you'll be regarded as the local nutball.

You are one of those arseholes who runs around slagging off their friend's cars yet doesn't have a car of their own. That's why what you say means nothing to people. You have never shown yourself to have anything, done anything or be anything to give your view any amount of respect.

Have a nice life, loser.

Sweden caught with its pants down, tries to demonise those who have concern for the handling of covid.

SR the mouthpiece for the gov't, golly, what a surprise.

"There is a bit of Stasi methods all over the place that Swedish Radio deals with. When we wrote the DN article, there were many journalists who seemed to want to put us there. It calmed down. But it might just be a temporary pause in the filth of us. "

Sweden media nothing more than state echobox, complicit in ignoring 1000's of unnecessary covid deaths.

Are the MeatHeads capable of critical thought? It would seem not meant to be.

This says it all:

https://www.dagensmedia.se/medier/radio-pod...-helt-neutrala/

Again, the MeatHeads only concerned with image: "We wanted to describe how the media image of the corona is created."

The Swedish model: the inept cover for the inept, and if you realise that, keep it to yourself or be publicly crucified for not towing the highly-orchestrated party line.

Basically the Swedish equivalents of the "stop-the-steal" people.

Also in MeatBallian universities. So nice now only to watch from the outside (looking in).

Who are you gonna bitch to in 13 days time? Get this rubbish out while you can. You probably think of us as friends and your keyboard as your boyfriend.

Sad, sorry excuse for a man.

Learn Swedish. It's true you need to speak the language. How easy would it be for a person who can't speak English to get a job in your field in the UK or US?

I'd say if you put the graft in you could be able to speak well enough in a year but I would advise you to take any job you can to 1) get in the system. 2) learn workplace ethic and 3) help pick up the language.

Any employer will want you to fit in and no expect the other employees to have to speak English to work with you because it can and will make other workers feel alienated.

Good luck!

One thing though.... IF you have your communities already for a few years, and assumingly successful, what in the bloody hell are you doing here? That is massively confusing, because I would then assume that you are, if successful too busy to spend time with the moaners on this forum to begin with, and do your own thing.

Now the forum closing is perhaps a good thing. It was mostly brits that had the loudest yell anyways (not complaining, an honest observation!), so it was more a 'British' t?te a t?te than anything else.

On the other hand it is a sad thing, although I do understand the closure; asking a legit question usually leads to a litany of crap you either did not ask for, or within the first 10 comments of the topic it becomes a slugfest with personal insults, and people ain't that mature enough to control themselves. Not here. Too many people that get stepped on and butthurt because of comments/ answers that they did not like, or escalated beyond the original topic.....

Don't think individual people closed the forum though. Despite the "The Local is not responsible for content posted by users." statement, the local will always be responsible no matter what because it is hosted on their platform. Plus the way things were going on the forum were not that 'Swedish' to begin with I guess. To attribute the closure to just a few is you just missing the point. For a matter of fact, the TS sounds just as winey as the people who he claims are responsible for the closure.

Hope it comes back at some point, but with better moderation, the opportunity to actually delete your profile (which is impossible, trust me I tried!), but it is just better to let this forum die.

Good riddance....

First of all, we all have different views of success. I don't have tens of thousands and I don't want to either. I'm happy with the community size that I have across my platforms and those I help. The bigger you are the more problems that come with it.

Regarding patreon, as I've mentioned before, you only need a few hundred paying a (relatively) small sum each month to make a decent income. To find a niche you just need to look for what people want that they can't get. Give them it for free and offer a 'premium' service.

People screw up by thinking of big figures. Better to have 100 people paying 10 kronor than 10 people paying 100 kronor. But I digress.

What am I doing here? I (genuinely) came here to help with questions but then stayed to argue with the haters.

When someone comes here to ask a honest question and get replies from people who hate Sweden that have never lived here or people who just have a slanted view it's not nice.

Sure, I lower myself and throw insults around at them but that's because they don't debate like adults so I gave up with them. Calling Swedes meatballs and so on from someone who claims to be a published scientist just makes me laugh.

anyone can run a news article through a translation app

You are missing what the point of The Local is. It isn't to present news, if it were then the articles would be a lot more informative.

I would liken The Local to something more like a magazine then a newspaper. I think it gets as much criticism as it does because it purports to be Sweden's news in English.

You only have to look at the front page to see this. There is completely no mention of the serious crimes that have occurred in the major cities over the past 24 hours for which there has been plenty.

Instead it is articles about winter break rules, semlor and other nonsense which isn't of any use for people living here, really.
