The Local _ Studying _ Applications Autumn 2020

Posted by: sarfinav 17.Oct.2019, 02:15 PM

Hello everyone,

The first-round of applications opened yesterday and I hope everything is going well for you! I was wondering if anyone wanted to stay in touch through the application process, scholarship applications, + the long way before the notifications come out in April.

Which universities and courses are you applying to? Is this your first time applying to Sweden? What made you interested in studying in Sweden?

Posted by: Namya 17.Oct.2019, 04:19 PM

Hey lady!

Happy to be on this journey with you and the rest smile.gif

Thank you for starting this thread!

Posted by: bonchance 17.Oct.2019, 07:23 PM

Hello! I'm here already...let the wait begin biggrin.gif

Posted by: ol'picasso 18.Oct.2019, 01:07 PM

Hello all!

I hail from the USA but reside in Sweden. My second time applying, first time, last year, transcripts came in late. So I was instantly unqualified and deleted laugh.gif

Applying to Bachelors Program in Biomedicine, Karolinska. Degree and career switch for me smile.gif .

Hopefully this time around goes well for all of us!

Posted by: sarfinav 19.Oct.2019, 04:22 AM

Hey ol'picasso!!

Thank you for dropping in! This is also my second time applying smile.gif Ahh, as you said, I hope this time around goes well for all of us

That's cool! Where is Sweden are you located? I'm applying to the Public Health Masters at KI! You said this is a degree & career switch for you, what field are you coming from?

I am happy someone made this group ! I think they usually appear much later.
I am applying to 2 master's in Lund.

Good luck everyone smile.gif

Posted by: sarfinav 22.Oct.2019, 02:08 AM

Hi Chuups!

I agree! I was apart of the group last year and don't think it popped up until late December or early January.
What programs are you applying to at Lund?

Posted by: sarfinav 22.Oct.2019, 02:10 AM

Hey guys,

Was wondering if anyone is applying to the Master's programme in public health sciences: Societal and/or individual perspectives at Stockholm University

Or do you know anyone that's applied or is currently studying at SU? I am a Psychology grad and am interested in the Individual perspective as it involves a little more Psychology and am thinking about applying to it but don't know if I meet the specific requirements. University Admissions can be so picky with meeting those requirements sometimes...

Posted by: Chuups 22.Oct.2019, 04:17 PM

Hey !
I am applying to the master's in international development and management as well as the one in development studies smile.gif It's very competitive so I don't have high hopes but at least I am trying.

You could try to write to the programme coordinator maybe ?

Hi people,

I am applying for sustainable technology masters the 2nd time. Last year was placed in reserve position. Anyone with the same interests?

Posted by: Guest 17.Dec.2019, 09:49 AM

Anyone already sent transcript from USA to UA? my school sent it on 12/04 but it never shows it arrived. I am so worried.

Posted by: sarfinav 10.Jan.2020, 03:16 AM

Hej Hej!!

We are 5 days away from the application deadline for Autumn 2020! Make sure to have your applications ranked according to priority since you cannot change the order after the deadline.

If you've submitted all your documents and paid the application fee already then that's great! If not, you have until Feb 3rd to do so! Preferably, don't wait until the last minute as you never know what can happen.

What schools and programs are you applying to?

Why Sweden? What sparked your interest?

Posted by: TrickyB 30.Jan.2020, 07:26 PM

Hi guys

Has anyone on this forum ever applied when they were still in their final semester of bachelors degree and got an admission before?

I am expecting to graduate in July 2020.

Posted by: Chuups 31.Jan.2020, 07:12 PM

I think you have to prove that you'll graduate before you start the master. If you graduate in July you should be fine to start in late august\september smile.gif

Posted by: sarfinav 3.Feb.2020, 01:49 AM

Hej Hej!!

Less than a day left until the application deadline! How is everyone feeling?

Any newcomers to this thread? We have a group chat for 2020 Applicants if you want to join PM me or @Namya for the link.

Lets keep all updates to our applications posted as best we can! And we can jump in and help if needed.

Hei,
I applied for International Master Programmes Autumn Semester 2020:
Here is my priority:
1. Malmo Universtitet, Political Science: Global Politics, Master's Programme (Two-year):Qualified Merit rating 180 of Maximum 285. Selection Group HPAV Qualified.
2. Stockholm University:International Master's Programme in Political Science(120 ECTS): In Progress
3.Sodertorn University,Political Science (120 ECTS: In Progress
4. Umea Universitet: Political Science (120 ECTS): Still in progress
Any body who can provide me an information on the meaning of the selction group and being qualified before the deadline, Mid Janaury?
Any Idea. Good Luck dear Applicants!

Posted by: Chuups 8.Feb.2020, 05:30 PM

Qualified simply means that you meet all the requierements. If your application changed before the deadline it's because you submitted your documents in advance and it was processed faster.

As for the selection group, it's a way to split the applicants. I know that DA means Direct Admission and from previous threads AU is also very good. I don't know anything about the others, though.

Good luck everyone !

Congrats! I'd say PG or DA (direct admission) is pretty certain but it's always good to wait until you get the results on the 3rd to finally confirm it.

Ya I am waiting for the final confirmation. I was surprised to get a result this much early. The application deadline was 3rd February and I got notification of PG 3-4 days later. Is there any previous case though, who got PG earlier and didn't get an offer letter later?

Hi Namya,

I have applied to lulea university and my status has changed to 'qualified'. further the status is 'Guaranteed Place (APG)'. Can you please tell me what does this mean. Does this means the seat is confirmed or its something else. Lulea university is my first preference and I didnt even got MR for that course. Please reply if you know something about this.

Hello friends,

I am Siddharth and I have applied to lulea university and its my first preference. I have got Guaranteed Place (APG) with no merit number (Dont know why) for course in lulea. I have a question does this mean my seat is confirmed or it is not guaranteed since my remaining three application are still in progress. Guys its really confusing and making me anxious. Please explain me this whoever knows the evaluation system. Thanks in Advanced.

Posted by: Chuups 22.Feb.2020, 04:54 PM

Congrats ! It seems like you were admitted. Of course, it's better to wait for April 3rd tongue.gif You can also write to Lulea University to ask about your status.

The programmes are assessing you based on what they were asking for. If you get in or not is not affected by your other choices and if you were qualified\unqualified for those.

Also, some university aren't showing the Merit Ranking (it's the case for Lund, for example).

Posted by: Guest 22.Feb.2020, 06:23 PM

hi there
My mind is preoccupied with a question. How many students will be admitted to each program this year? of course, there are different numbers but I want something like the average number.
My status for two of my selections was changed to qualified 2 weeks ago, but Gothenburg and Malmo steel in progress. is this normal?
thanks

Posted by: Chuups 22.Feb.2020, 07:24 PM

Hej ! If you want to look at the stats, you can go there : https://statistik.uhr.se/
you can see how many people applied, how many were admitted in the previous years and a lot more smile.gif

Some universities (especially bigger ones) are taking more time than others to review your application. It's completely normal.

Good luck !

Hi Chuups,

Yes, its better to wait till 3rd April. But here I am gathering some statistics regarding Guaranteed Place (APG). According to that, i want to get some rough idea about it. The statistics which I seen from the previous intake is that, if university confirm the seat, they do it by showing'Guaranteed Place (PG)' and its obvious that PG means direct admission and almost all university do this. Here the case is different, they showing (APG) which I dont know and only lulea does this. The point is have you ever came across any guy with guaranteed place APG who got rejected or admitted. And finally, thanks for giving a little relief by saying 'Admitted' biggrin.gif
Thank you

Posted by: Chuups 23.Feb.2020, 10:56 PM

I looked at the stats. Most people who apply at Lulea get in and no one who had APG as a selection group was selected. Looks pretty good for you.

Yes ! It also says how many spots there is on my programme's webpage. For instance, on statistik.uhr, it says that 100 people were admitted last year. However, not all of them had it as their first choice or got a scholarship so in the end they really are around 40 (38 I think) in the new cohort. So when we look at the number of people admitted, its not always representative of the actual number of people who will start the programme.

I applied to the Master's Programme in Physics at Uppsala and got a preliminary assessment letter from them. But until now my status for all programs I applied to are still "In progress." Do you know if it's possible for the status to remain "In Progress" until the publication of results?

Posted by: Guest 26.Feb.2020, 09:24 AM

Hello everyone,

I have applied for these courses for Autumn 2020 intake:

1. Interaction designing and Technology - Chalmers university
2. Human computer interaction - Uppsala university
3. Computer science - Linkoping university
4. Human computer interaction - Ume? university

As the deadline for uploading the documents were before February 3rd, I uploaded the required documents on February 1st. But, I received a message stating that I have not fulfilled the primary requirements on 9th of January for Chalmers and 13th of January for Linkoping.

The status currently for Chalmers university and Linkoping is "Unqualified" and the other two are "In Progress".

Should I be worried because looking at "Unqualified" as the status is really demotivating. Can I get a better clarity on the status? And if anyone has applied for the same programs, have you received any updates on your application status?

Hi sagar, Yes you can get better clarity on the status. Although seeing your status change to unqualified and back to in progress is sometimes normal during the review, check the notification stating that you haven't fulfilled the primary requirements again, for additional 'detailed' information on what could probably be the issue; read every single line. If you cant find a hint after doing that contact university admissions.

Posted by: Baraki20 28.Feb.2020, 11:45 AM

All my application status became in progressive. Both qualified and merit ratings have been changed in to progress. Any updates on the issue. What infer this change?

Posted by: Aramis 28.Feb.2020, 12:00 PM

Mine from Unqualified to in Progress... yayyyyyy

Posted by: Baraki20 28.Feb.2020, 02:42 PM

so, is it similar with my case. Forward and backward linkages? What can it implies my case at hand??

Posted by: sarfinav 2.Mar.2020, 02:49 AM

Hej Allesammans,

We are a little over a month away from finding out! Try not to stress with the seemingly ever-changing status on your applications, it's normal. Hopefully, you're staying busy and taking care of yourselves.

Tack!!

Guys! Did anyone's application change from "In Progress", those who applied to KTH?

Posted by: Siddharth10 5.Mar.2020, 05:36 AM

No, for KTH its still in progress

Posted by: walkingnerd 5.Mar.2020, 03:12 PM

How about the KTH Scholarship? Did anyone get any updates regarding that?

Posted by: Chuups 5.Mar.2020, 04:32 PM

I think the scholarships are given once people are accepted. At least I am pretty sure it's the case for Lund. If you are admitted, then they'll look at your scholarship application and decide if they give one to you or not. We should have the scholarship results the day of or a couple of days after April 3rd. It's probably the same for KTH ?

Less than a month until we know !

So my situation is this at the moment - my programs in Uppsala, Lund and Umea are still in progress and Gothenburg is qualified with mr 180/225.

I've already got a letter of acceptance at Jonkoping University as I've applied through their own website, however I am more interested in the ones in Stockholm.

Master's Programme, Interactive Media Technology - KTH - IN PROGRESS

Masters programme in Design for Creative and Immersive Technology - Stockholm University, QUALIFIED
Apparently I got this status: You compete in the following selection groups: Guaranteed place (PG)

Master's Programme in Human-Computer Interaction - Uppsala University, IN PROGRESS

We'll see.

Uh you can probably find it under "More Information", under each of the courses you've applied to. I don't think you have to worry if you have a guaranteed place, though.

Not the person you are talking to, but. I personally decided to apply to only one programme because it is the only one I truly want. It would feel like losing my time to write 3 more SoP when I don't actually want to study there. I also wouldn't put myself in debts for something that I feel isn't 100% relevant to me. Plus, universities/programmes are more likely to give you a scholarship if you put the programme as your first choice. Therefore, you are far less likely to get a scholarship for your 2-3-4th choices. I need at least a partial tuition scholarship.

That is why I applied to only one wink.gif It's maybe a bad move, but I guess it shows just how much I really want that programme.

Because I only want to study Machine Learning.

I did my bachelor's in electronics and came to Stockholm to do my bachelor's thesis at KTH (from India). After my thesis, since August last year, I am a research assistant under a professor in Machine Learning at KTH. I have been working on it for a while now, and have no knowledge of the technical computer science topics, no interest either. The closest to ML would've been computer science which I am not interested in. So didn't apply.

The reason I didn't think of any other city is, because I am dating someone in Stockholm for like a year and we would try to stay together. and Machine learning at KTH is really good.

I am anxious because it is very important to me that I get in.

Last year I got into TUM, but rejected it because my parents passed away in February last year and had to look after a lot of things. Could not have afforded my studies so had to reject it. That's why I worked as a research assistant at KTH to earn some money. I needed the scholarship too.

Hi all!

This thread is great, I've been checking it non-stop along with the application page.

I've applied for the following programmes:

- Evolutionary Biology at Uppsala University IN PROGRESS
- Biology at Gothenburg University CONDITIONALLY QUALIFIED (Academic Education AP) merit rating 150 out of 225
- Palaeobiology at Uppsala University CONDITIONALLY QUALIFIED (Alternative Selection AU)
- Ecology and Conservation at Uppsala University IN PROGRESS

My second option was originally deemed UNQUALIFIED but I wrote to them and explained that I did meet the requirements, and they changed it. Maybe knowing this helps someone out there who is in the same position.

I'll be reading the thread, good luck to you all!

Hi guys,

I have applied below 4 programmes

1. Master's Programme in Accounting and Financial Management - Financial Accounting120 Credits, Uppsala University, Location: Uppsala
UNQUALIFIED

2. Master's Programme in Accounting and Financial Management - Financial Management120 Credits, Uppsala University, Location: Uppsala
UNQUALIFIED

3. Master's Programme in Accounting and Financial Management - Management Control120 Credits, Uppsala University, Location: Uppsala
UNQUALIFIED

4. Master Programme (One Year) in Finance60 Credits, Lund University, Location: Lund
QUALIFIED

All Uppsala (UU) applications are considered as unqualified, only Lund (LU) application is qualified. I have contacted UU and they said I did not meet their specific requirements of the programmes, which means I did not meet the requirement of 90 credits in business studies and 15 credits in statistics in bachelor degree. I have told them that as my bachelor degree is a 4-year program (should be calculated by 240ECTS), instead of using 180ECTS scheme. However, they insist I did not meet and told me to appeal after the notification of results. (???)

One interesting point is that, my bachelor degree is in business administration with major in accounting. Another interesting point is, both UU and LU require 90 credits in business studies and 15 credits in statistics. Only LU's program is qualified, but UU's are not. This is so weird.

I have really no idea for this, may I have any advice? Thank you!

Hi,
The first thing is you should contact the university to recheck your application and demand the requirements that you need to fulfil. you yourself again check weather the documents you provided meets those requirements or not. If yes, draft the separate email and explain them how you qualify for that programe which proof (again attach all those documents). This should help you out. Again time is very less, do it as soon as possible. Dont worry everything will be fine.

Do you really think that someone will make a detailed email containing the reason he's not accepted? They have thousands of applicants, if everyone who is unqualified is going to demand an explanation, they wouldn't have time to do their actual jobs. The university is right and fair, challenge the decision after they announce the results!

Posted by: Baraki20 27.Mar.2020, 04:06 PM

All my application status became Qualified. I applied the same field ( MA in Political Science).
Except Stockholm all are with merit ratings of 180 of max.285 , selection group HPAV. These three universities

Malmo, Sodertorn and Umea are based on Higher Education Credits.
Stockholm university entity requirement is different. It is based on Academic grades and my selection group is ...Quality and quantity of Previous academic records (INT).

Posted by: Notoray 27.Mar.2020, 05:04 PM

Hello,

I am writing this to encourage anyone who may have an UNQUALIFIED status. Check your portal regularly and email admissions immediately if you believe your application met ALL the requirements but you were deemed unqualified. I have had one UNQUALIFIED status changed (to In Progress) on emailing admissions of the university and explaining clearly how I met the requirements and conversion of my credits to the ECTS (Yes, they do respond to these emails). So don't give up. Use every tool at your disposal to ensure you're assessed correctly.

Hi, I also applied to lund and uppsala same courses.

Lind just require a course in statistics in addition to the other requirements but uppsala requires more than one course in statistics.

If you did more than one course in statistics, send a mail attached with evidence of that.

Yes, I had a month ago, the reply below:
The review has found that you have approximately 84 credits in business studies and 8 credits in statistics.

After I received this reply, I tried to calculate to explain why I only got 84 credits in business and 8 credits in statistics. And I found that they may use 180ECTS (3-year bachelor studies) to calculate my 4-year prgramme.

Thanks for your advice. I did send an email to them with an explanation and transcript with remarks. But I think UU is doing this very systematically and they always told me to send an appeal after notification of results.

I am not very worried about my qualification on the programme, I am just worried about the scholarship. As the UU scholarship result is released on the same day of notification of programme result, I am pretty sure Im gonna miss it. sad.gif

Do you really think that someone will make a detailed email containing the reason he's not accepted? They have thousands of applicants, if everyone who is unqualified is going to demand an explanation, they wouldn't have time to do their actual jobs. The university is right and fair, challenge the decision after they announce the results!

Guys, please relax.

I think UU insisted that I need to submit an appeal after notification of result, is their admission policy.

But my scholarship sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif

Hi, I also applied to lund and uppsala same courses.

Lind just require a course in statistics in addition to the other requirements but uppsala requires more than one course in statistics.

If you did more than one course in statistics, send a mail attached with evidence of that.

I have sent an email with explanation a month ago. And they told me the reason and ask me to appeal after notification of result sad.gif

Hi guys, one things to ask everyone, is it possible that the system keeps the status "in progress" until the selection begins? As all science subjects are no status change.??

Hi friends!!!

How is everyone doing? I hope you're healthy and staying productive.

We are 2 days and 13 hours away from D-Day and scholarship announcements. (excluding SI of course, since that's later in the month)

Soon our applications will start locking, don't panic when you see this.

What will your first steps be after receiving your selection results on April 3rd?

Dear Sarfinav,

I am fine, I just hope and pray earnestly that the earth heals quickly from the COVID-19.
Other than that, I am a bit anxious and I pray that we all are favoured. We have done our parts, I hope it is good enough. I can't say at the moment what my first step would be upon receiving the result notification on April 3rd.

I wish everyone Success!

Probably cry and call my dad haha. For Lund the scholarships will be announced between April 3-6th, so I will probably have to wait as well.

Good luck to everyone ! We are almost there !

Hi all!

I can't believe how close we are to knowing the results! I wish everyone the very best of luck.

I've been meaning to ask, (hope you don't mind) given that we now have nothing left to do but wait, I decided to venture into the admission statistics at uhr. Has anybody else done this? I figured out that that there was a total of 17 applicants to my programme last year, and during the first round (urval 1) it said 6 people where accepted with a (*) that meant "all applicants were accepted". I would like to think this is good news?? Is anyone familiar with how the database works?

Good luck to all! I think I'll be having a couple of ice-cold beers as soon as I hear the results, be it good or bad news, I'll need a drink.

Posted by: sarfinav 3.Apr.2020, 07:55 AM

This is it guys!! We've waited a long time for this. Regardless of the outcome, thank you for sticking with each other, being respectful and helpful during this stressful period.

I hope we can still keep this thread and the whatsapp group chat going while we wait for scholarship announcements and later on housing applications and permit applications. Not just for us but for future applicants as well. It's not going to be easy this year (it's never easy period) but this year with a crisis going on worldwide, we have to stick together and help one another.

Good luck everyone!

Hi, I got conditionally accepted to Uppsala as well (Data Engineering - MSc in Data Science). Im only half way there though, I need to wait for SI scholarship selection on the 24th.

Congrats to everyone who got the admissions!!

I got admitted for masters in electric power engineering and placed on reserve (waiting list) in embedded electronic system design at Chalmers. Embedded was my first choice. Is it worth waiting to get a seat in embedded or should I proceed with the admitted course in electric power engineering?

Posted by: sarfinav 4.Apr.2020, 01:18 AM

Hey guys!!

Congrats on the admissions!! If you've been waitlisted then don't give up hope yet, things can still change. But keep in mind that it's also important to have backup plans so you're always prepared if things don't go your way.

Once again, if you'd like to join the Whatsapp group, please send me a DM and I will send you the link. Only serious inquiries, please.

I obviously can't say for sure... But I would expect a lot of people to decline their offer once SI's results are out. If you are the first on the waiting list, you need only one person to decline. It's likely to happen. If you were 50+ on the waitlist I wouldn't be too optimist, but 1 is great.

Good luck !

hi,
I'm planning to apply This year and I have selected 3 programme so far
I have a question. While I meet all of the requirement there is one section on my IELTS test below the requirement
the requirement is Ielts 6 no section below 5.5
my result as follows
My overall score is 6.5, Listening 7.5, Reading 7, Speaking 7, and Writing 5.

Can I apply with it ? .if not, can I apply and be considered for a conditional offer, and in that case, retake the test if I'm conditionally admitted.
