Hello Everyone!
I am 27 year old guy working as energy engineer in Östergötland. I have been in Sweden for almost 4 years. First 2 years I spent in Sthm doing my Master. And later moved out from the capital.
It would be great to find english-speaking people here in Linköping or even Norrköping. I am liberal and open-minded and usually get along with people very well. Please contact me here if you are interested in meeting for a fika or beer.
Good luck!
just head along to your local brit or irish pub and you'll meet people. i used live in åtvidaberg years ago and if i remember right there was one "irish" pub in linköping and another "english" called hamlet which was a pretty cool place.
Hamlet used to be the ONLY Pub in Linköping years ago and became the hangout for the Brits who came here to work for SAAB on the 340 program. I have'nt been there for a few years, but I think it still is the Pub of choice for those Brits who stayed after the 340 program stopped. The Bishops arms down the bottom of Ågatan seems to be more popular with the younger crowd
I live outside the city in Ljungsbro and don't go pubing so often in winter, but I'll ask my son (25) if he knows where the English speakers hang out.
Sounds like a Linköping meet-up might be in order when all this trafick chaos (kaos/"cows") has subsided. Weds/Thurs are generally good for me but I can swing a Fri/Sat if given a bit of advance notice. Just set a place and time, and Iäll see what I can do.
Cheers
Hej hej! Thank you all for quick responses. Linköping meet-up would be great. I am usually free in the evenings (after 6pm) during the week and of course during the weekends. But let's wait for some other replies before setting the time and place for the meet-up.
I forgot to mention that I am not from the UK or Ireland. Usually I prefer not to share my personal information including the country of origin in public discussions. But you are most welcome to send me a private message in case you want to know more about me.
Have a nice day!
Not trying to give you a hard time or anything, but Linköping isn't THAT small so every English speaker will be singled-out, or is it? I find it hard to attend a meet-up when there's so much secrecy about home countries. I mean, we're all foreigners here ...
I find it difficult to spot the English speakers until I hear somebody speak, Like it is not normal for any of us to be going around ICA Maxi with a Union Jack on the top of our head or any other flag come to that.
We could start a hunt like the old Lobby Lud of the News Chronicle of 50 years ago. Spot an English speaker, go up to him and say " You are an English speaker and I claim a free beer"
Hej!
Sorry for the intrigue with home country...
I think it's better if we discuss these privacy issues in some good place with good beer or maybe coffee. I guess everyone is quite busy with work and family and also the winter doesn't seem willing to give up. But it would great if you could come. I don't know how much time in advance we should plan the meet-up. But what do you say about afterwork this Friday/Saturday (March 5-6) or next week on Wednesday (March 10)?
I am more or less flexible with time and place, so please tell what suits you best.
Regards!
Probably he is a pirate from Somalia masquareding as an English speaker. I Sverige vi har inge hemlighter när det gäller att identifiera sig...så min råd är att du få vara öppet...loosen up man..We are not on Somali waters here
every person should be proud of their heritage..WTF
Hej!
Thanx for the last two comments. It seems that you misunderstood me. When I say I prefer not to share my personal information on PUBLIC forums this concerns privacy. It is the same reason why almost everyone loggs in to this forum with his or her nickname instead of using the real name.
Openness is ability to share whatever it is with people around you, the people you meet and the people who are interested in you. But if you think that openness consists of absolute disclosure to Everyone, then you can consider me to be a closed person. I don't mind.
And by the way, I am very proud of my home country, more than you think.
I gave up with the attempt for meet-up here and this is my last post in this discussion. I would like to thank all people in this forum who responded positively and showed interest. Perhaps some day we'll meet by chance somewhere in Östergötland. You never know!
Good luck to everyone!
im JAMAICAN ..and proud!!!!
if youre so proud of where you from why you so shyyy Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

Hey!
My name's Dan, I'm 23 years old and I'm from Evesham, England. I've just moved to Linkoping with my Swedish girlfriend. At the moment I am waiting to start Swedish lessons so I have a lot of time on my hands. I'm an easy going person who likes to have a good time and meet new people. I don't really know anyone here, so It would be nice to meet English speaking people as I don't speak Swedish yet.
Dan
Looks like this thread still has signs of life... Dare I ask if there is enough interest to start a Linköping/Östergötland expat meetup group?
I'm an American guy that'll be studying at LiU for the next 5 years... So, yeah, it would be nice to get to know some of the expats that are hanging around Linkööööping.
Could this be a possible date for an English meet up?

HELLO! I'm English and therefore english speaking also and shall be in Sweden (Linkoping area) as of August...yipeee!
But I would also very much like to Swedish too...what is the best and easiest route to go about this? I have heard about SFI but it hasn't been highly recommended...
I am also starting a Masters course at LIU at the end of Aug, and it would be nice to meet and speak to people who are also in the same situation :-)
I guess we could meet up for a fika some time.
If you don't know what fika is yet. You will soon enough...
Welcome to Sweden and Linköping.
It is very great for me to learn english,
