Hi,
I've just been emailed from an agency , offering 150/HR SEK for windows server techie.
It's a 6 month contract.
I'm trying , atm, top find what the apartments cost in rent, and living costs, tax etc.
I think this is a low wage?
Would it be worth taking just to experience Goithen burg...
or is the rate just way too low to live.
Cheers
Dave

Should be if it is full time. Depends on if you have any debits you are trying to pay off tho.

If you are still concerned you can always look at one of the towns just outside
You can also use https://www.numbeo.com to check the cost of living in gothenburg against the cost of living in your home city. Just adjust the 150 sek to the difference in cost of living and see if it is something you could live off of.

Unless you are looking to live in the city center, 5000-6000sek should be enough for an apartment. Food internet, etc... will probably run you an additional 7,500-10,000 sek a month ontop of that. By and large, 16,000 sek a month should be enough to live comfortably. Worst case you would pay approx 25% in tax so that gives you 18,000 SEK a month.

Many thank Bryann for all the info and help.

I reckon that I may have 3000SEK (£300) left over a month ,living frugally..

I may even , just break even ..after paying for all the sundries of a new move, and for visiting the touristy traps.

I suppose I would have to look at it as a travel opportunity
or a foot in the door, to see if there are any other vacancies..opportunities

Cheers

Hi BSmith,
I'm not sure tbh...
I'd imagine a 37.5 - 40 hour week.
I'll go check

Cheers

To put it in perspective, 150 SEK/hour is above the basic wage of McDonalds, by about 50%.

As a gross salary, it is 25 k / month, which to a first approximation, is median salary. In practice, it is fine to support a single person living somewhere cheap, to support a family it isn't enough (especially if you want to live in central Stockholm/Gothenburg)

Hi Svedallas
The email stats "115/HR SEK or 13/HR GBP All inclusive"

I am erring on the side of not taking it...
as I would better off , financially , staying over here (uk)

I was thinking of going just to "have a look" and seeing what other opportunities arose..

Cheers

Thanks "Yet another Brit"
yes, it did seem a bit low for a major city tbh..
especially when that rate would have to include flights over, agent fees, resettling etc etc
I am thinking of staying here, and then seeing if there's anything in the summer..
or just to go for a holiday and meet the lovely swedish smile.gif
Cheers
Liam
ps this is what Ido over here (plz remove if not ok)
but it has really died a death...no calls etc ...since people are moving over to mobiles etc

I would take up on the offer. It is always better to try something that fails then never try anything. If you are looking for people to meet while you are here let me know, I am a American/brit living in gothenburg.

Maybe I will cast my nets and see what's out there

Hi Dave, 150sek/hr seems quite low to me, considering that I was making 140sek/hr as a waitress.

It is a liveable wage if you can find a decent apartment, but finding housing can also be quite difficult.

Not to discourage you from taking the job if you do have an interest in spending a bit of time somewhere else and seeing what it's like! I think Gothenburg is a beautiful, vibrant city, and it could be a really lovely experience for you.

This is a slave wage. I made 145 sek/hour as a substitute teacher. I made 160 sek/hour as a traveling first line support technician.
