First of all; welcome to the Local! Sorry to see that it's taken so long to get constructive feedback! My husband and I live in Danderyd, which is the council just south of T?by and east of Sollentuna. We're very happy here and schools and nurseries are good, as well as plenty of public transport. There are certainly opportunities to rent in these areas, most will give you access to parking, but your budget may be in the lower bracket. I didn't get what part of the world you're moving from, but if your husband has work the family should be entitled to public schooling. Since your children are fairly young I'd go for whatever nursery or school is nearest, they'll pick up Swedish in no time and most of the staff will be sufficiently fluent in English to help during the first few months before they pick it up. Otherwise there are bilingual schools and nurseries included in the public schooling system in most councils. You will find ads for flats and houses on http://www.blocket.se Use Google Translator and you'll get a fair idea of what's on offer. You can also sign up for the accommodation service on http://www.bostaddirekt.se Feel free to mail me on [email protected] if you have questions and I will help as much as I can! Sofia |

Talcum powders (the fragrant ones) are available at Åhléns department stores. Baby powder you can find in most shops, try one of the baby goods shops if your local supermarket doesn't have them |

9000 SEK for a sublet flat in town may be reasonable but it will not be a huge flat. The link on Blocket that you posted is a flat that is for sale. The price is advertised as roughly 5 million SEK, and the 2310 kronor is the monthly maintenance fee. |

Sure there are colleges for mature students. Either you go through the "kommunala vuxenutbildningen" in your council or you go to Folkhögskola (which also give you the right to continue at Uni) First you need to finish your Swedish studies though. Check out with your council what is available for you |

Have no idea... As far as I understand they get their details from Folkbokföringsregistret - which is public access. Contact the site and ask |

Honestly, the only place around Stockholm on 30 minutes by local traffic that you could get for 2.5 million SEK, with a minimum of three bedrooms, is not the sort of place you'd want to live! 30 minutes by National Railways, possibly. But then you're looking at horrendous commuter fees for your uni student, and you'll find very few International or English schools in those areas, so you would have to have those kids commuting too. |

As far as I know most is taught in Swedish and in order to get accepted into any education program you need to have advanced knowledge of Swedish. Check with Puffin, she's the expert on all that. We also have different acceptance policies than many other countries. Here it is a matter on your grades, or how high you scored on an acceptance test. |

Just a thought... does your daughter have grades in Swedish to get into a Swedish university, or is she doing her Masters? |

Just to cover my back here, or else I will be inundated with ten thousand emails from hopefuls, I have NOT offered OP a job. I am not in a position to offer anyone a job, but I was impressed by his very well thought through post and his well researched decition (how very very rare it is that one sees that) and wanted to offer advice. I also want to point out that my advice is not for sale |

Why not take a look at Gnesta instead? Lovely place, really lovely. Reasonable distance from S-tälje by commuter train, much much nicer town, lots of young professionals and young families around... and much cheaper than similar area in Stockholm |

money laundering? how do you mean? Well sure, i would be ready for that. How? Well... bad person with ill gotten means wish to make them look legal. Buys something expensive, like property, with the ill gotten cash, then sell it through proper way and all of a sudden the money comes from a legal sale of something. |

yes i want a place in the city, goteborg actually, and yes, more of a vacation home in the country. With an injection of cash that you will have to bring in to buy that you will have to be prepared for questions from the authorities. Sweden and property within it's borders has been used for money laundering in the not too distant past |

Depending on what exchange organisation you have come in with you may or may not be covered by health insurance for these things. Ask your representative or host family, alternatively go to the school nurse |

Not wanting to put a dampener on your enthusiasm but you've got your head in the clouds. At that price you will not be able to find a farm anywhere where you can actually live as a civilized human being and farm the land in a profitable way. You may be able to find a cottage in the areas you mentioned, but not with that amount of land with it |

ah, but think of the beauty of a system where you wouldn't have paid more than 400:- had you had menigitis! The only other cost you would have had, had you ended up in ICU on a ventilator for two weeks would have been 80:- a day! The fact that we all pay those 400:- when we see a doctor or nurse for only five or ten minutes help pay for our care when we really need it... I may think health care ought to covered by the taxes entirely, but I'd much rather have the system we have than none at all. I would have been dead years ago... |
