Hello,

I am admitted to a MS program at UU but if I am to live in Uppsala, as many of you, I have to work. Does anyone know how to get a job there? Anything decent that will help me finance myself. I know it's tough to find a job there, but if you have any suggestion... Thank you cool.gif

How to get a job there? - You can't.
Even native Swedes have a lot of trouble in Uppsala.

I really don't know where you would find a job in Uppsala where you could support yourself - you would need to be earning 10,000 kronor per month before tax to have enough to live on.

Sometimes the student nations employ people to work in the nations and at events such as dinners etc - but these are more pocket money jobs.

The people in my seminar group who had managed to find jobs were working night/weekend shifts in social care - but you need certificates of fluency in Swedish for this and preferably a nursing/social care qualification - and even people taking 4 12 hour night shifts a week were not earning enough to live on.

Hi,
As fas as I know (since I myself was studying in Sweden), in order to get the visa you need to prove that you have enough money to support yourself during the studies. That amount is quite enough for decent student life.

Now, many people lie, and just borrow money to present on their bank account, when they actually don't have it. Even though I think everyone should have equal rights for education, I don't support those who come to Sweden and work on black, taking jobs from Swedes.
If you can afford it- study at your own country. Or maybe Swedish government should pay foreigners for studying too??

Piont taken about having to prove that you have enough money, i've proved that i have enough money and i've been working two years to save it.
But that mentality you have of saying people come to take jobs from Swedes and implying that immigrants want to be fully supported is wrong. Some of us travel for exposure and whether or not i'm back home or not i'd still want to find a job and make extra money, whats wrong with that? In my country there are many sweds working and they were lucky to get away with not being black and not being on the street because people who thought the way you do were beating and burning them up all in the name of 'they are taking our jobs'.

You're Norwegian?
Now that is unexpected.
But meh, your government throws more than enough money at you anyway. Norwegians not only need not work but they can afford to hire a handful of sla...servants to do all their dirty jobs for them.

Well waitressing is the typical student job that everyone wants and even Swedes can't get.
Baby sitting...maybe if you're lucky. I knew a German girl who somehow got in contact with German woman nearby (married to a Swede) and they though it'd be good to have a German baby sitter for their kids.

Hi,

i think the job most students do in uppsala is newspaper distributions, paper sorting, and cleaning. to get job in uppsala, you have to contact newspaper companies in uppsala and see if they have any vacancies. if non, they may put you in Q so that if they have something for you, they will inform you. i know of people who constantly call them and were given job.

secondly, i you can work in student nations. The pay is not high but somepeople still survive with it. There are many nations arround so contact them.

Thirdly, Picking of empty cans. i know of a guy who use this to buy food to eat. this involes picking of empty can drink and pant them for money.

Fourtly, picking of unwanted valuable things to sell for money.

There are ways to survive to earn little cash for your studies, just think different. The only disadvantage is that some of these points i listed above may take your time but just do little of this and that you will survive. This is my own option. others may have theirs

Good luck

Excuse me, but you are shooting at the wrong target. Because I was and am an immigrant. I was just telling you my experiences. The only way to get a job in Sweden is to do something that not many Swedish can do- like I do cool.gif .

Sweden has enough problems with unemployment, especially with so many refugees. Though, many students manage to find jobs "on black" with help of their nationality ties etc.
Good that you already have funds for studying, and believe me, for a normal student life you don't need to spend all of it. 5000 sek per month is quite enough.
