I will be in Stockholm for a period of one year as an au pair, my host will have me enter the country February 12. Can I still notify Skat that I have moved to Sweden? And if in case no, can I open a bank account in Sweden without a personnummer?

1. What else can't I do without the magic number?

2. Can I go to Skat to inform that I have moved?

3. Will notifying Skat inconvenience my host, because they will have to pay my tax? (They did not let me sign a contract)

4. Should my host notify Skat themselves?

You can't do anything without the number and ID card. From pick up a parcel, join a gym (even paying everything up front), etc.

You have to wait until you are here to apply for a samordningsnummer. You host can't do it on your behalf.

Picking up a parcel is actually possible, at least if it Postnord (probably the others as well) https://www.postnord.se/ta-emot/hamta/legit...-legitimationer
Getting a prepaid SIM is also possible.
But in general it is correct that you need personnummer for most things.

When I first came here I did get a personnumber pretty quick, but did not have any Swedish ID, and just my Dutch Passport/Id and a Dutch drivers licence. The licence is definetly a no go, but with a valid passport you can get a package without an issue:

Postnord:
https://www.postnord.se/en/receiving/collec...-identification

DHL:
https://www.dhlpaket.se/en/private-customer...ervice/faq.html under which id documents are valid

Same goes for DB schenker and others, As long as you have a vaild passport (EU or otherwise) it should be fine. Heck it was so fine that it took me 2 years before I converted my drivers licence to the Swedish one.

But try to get hold of a PN it makes life in this place a hell of a lot easier.
