Issue using personnummer to get a prepay sim

It's on my passport but I've never used it

Hi everyone,

I have a Swedish personnummer and citizenship and was thinking of staying in Sweden in January to March. I can work anywhere as long as I have internet access. I lived in Sweden for a few months in the late 1990s when I registered and got my personnummer.

I'm trying to get a Hallon pre-pay sim card but I get the message "Tror du har r?kat gl?mma ange ett personnummer." i.e. your personnummer is not valid when I try and order it on the website. I've copied it straight out of my Swedish passport.

I've never used my personnummer for anything previously and am wondering if it is because I'm not registered on a computer system somewhere. I'm having the same problem when I try and get a pre-paid sim with Comviq on their website.

So how do I get them to accept my personnummer? Or are there any pre-pay sim providers which don't require a personnummer?

Cheers,

BP

Some ideas:
1) They don't ship SIM-cards abroad.
2) They don't want foreign customers due to the roaming fees.

Are you using a coordination number? With a coordination number, digit #5 is either 6, 7, 8 or 9, eg. XXXX6X-XXXX.

If you are not currently a resident (folkbokf?rd) in Sweden your personnummer is kinda inactive and useless for many things like this. Hallon or whoever will check your number in the population register and it will be shown that you are a non-resident.

If you are, as you state, a Swedish citizen, there shouldn't be an issue. I suspect you are not a Swedish citizen as you state you only lived here for a couple of months in the 1990s! But you also state you have a Swedish passport so I'm confused as to what your status actually is. Your Personal number must be registered somewhere if you have a Swedish Passport - and will not be a coordination number. Did you leave the country and did you notify the authorities? - if so this might be the issue.

A personnummer is not sufficient, OP needs to be a resident also i.e. be in the population register
