Some context to the discussion

A lot of people groan and grumble about the rental market in Sweden. Some of the time it is justified but most of the time it isn't. People quote statistics and numbers to try and garner outrage but there is no context to it.

So here's a figure, with context, that comes from Hyresgästföreningen (the renters union) that says there are 667,000 people on the waiting list for an apartment in greater Stockholm. Of that figure 83,000 are active searchers. This is for an area with 2.4 million people living in it.

An active searcher is someone who applies for apartments regularly or logs into the site on a weekly basis. It is someone who just logs into the website to update their queue time.

The above figure does not take into account people who are registered in multiple areas in Stockholm. For example, I am on the list of almost 10 housing authorities in Stockholm so I would be counted 10 times.

This post is to add some context, nothing more. Some will carry on moaning, some will go 'uh, ok' and some will accept it.

This is life, this is Sweden, accept it.

Great findings, to do little hijecking of the thread, can you please advise if the one (owner of the apartment) should be member of hyresgastforeningen, and why?

If someone owns an apartment they are not a renter. Nobody has to be a member but it is a union for renters.
