The Local _ Studying _ Merit Rating Bachelor's 2017

Posted by: laabbellz 8.Feb.2017, 04:42 PM

Hi everyone!

I applied to Lund University and Stockholm University this year for their Social Science programs and have been compulsively checking the university admissions website since it is February and I am getting impatient. The only thing I can see is my merit ranking, and though they say to not try to interpret it, I'm quite curious what chances I have with mine. For both programs I got a 22,5 ranking out of a possible maximum of 22,5. I have read several threads but cannot find any that have the same stats, so I'm posting a separate one. Lund is my top school and I have wanted to go there for 3 years now. In your opinion, what are my chances with this merit ranking???

Thanks to all who reply & good luck!! 2 months to go sad.gif

Posted by: TigaChung 20.Feb.2017, 05:36 PM

so...i only got the MR at 14.75 / 22.50

is that mean i am game over?

I apllied

Malmo:

International relations
Human rights
Peace and conflict
International migration and Ethnic relations
European Studies

Also

International Programme in Politics and Economics , University West
Specialization International Social Work , University of Gävle

In fact , I am quite upset and worried now. sad.gif

Hi TigaChunga...I wouldn't worry just yet. You applied to many programs so I think you have a chance of getting in somewhere...The merit ranking is confusing and people with low rankings have gotten in the past. It says the "higher the ranking the greater your chance" but it is hard to tell what goes on in admissions. We will just have to wait and see! Are you applying for bachelor's studies?

Posted by: Sinjanthu 22.Feb.2017, 05:56 PM

I have 6 out of 8 program's qualified till 20th feb and now all "in progress" again.
best to wait another month. Till March 30th

Hey man. I'd say you have a perfect chance of getting in. I don't see why you are worried? I mean.. congrats on these grades! They are superb. I checked the statistics, no where does it require such high grades, the MAX is usually around 21 something, and that is for medicine. The only thing that could hold you back would be:
- not having submitted all data
- bad motivation letter perhaps
- not meeting the subject requirements...
I can think of no problem other than that
I have a merit rating of 18,54/22.50 (BI) and I think I have a fair chance of getting into International Economics in Jönköping. If anyone can help me out there, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Cheers

Hey man,

I wouldn't worry if I were you. Doesn't help. Also, do you have BI or BII, because that makes a difference. I cannot find statistics for University West, but Malmö seems quite difficult to get in. European Studies might take you, tho. University West might be easier to get in. So you have a good chance there, too. Anyhow, if nothing works, consider resitting exams or applying to a different European uni? Norwegian, for example, takes students with 20/45 IB points, I once read. Was too late to apply sad.gif That would be a worthy shot, don't you think?
All the best man, and I am sure you will get in to a uni. Just keep up the work.
Cheers

Hi.. please what do you mean by there is a difference between bi and bii.. because im in bi.. with a merit rating of 16.. applied for the same programmes as tinga chung for malmo.. and added a few business programmes in there.. im as worried as he is.. what do you think of my chances.. lol i know you dont work for anymore and you are not the one who admits, but you seem to have an idea of how it works.. thanks anyway

Hi unknown 55,

I was so nervous but since it appears you have researched some statistics I appreciate your input. I applied for bachelor's studies so there was no motivation letter required and I did not get a message that I am missing any documents. Technically, the merit ranking is supposed to be an abstract number that shouldn't be interpreted, but how can you not?? It's so tempting..fingers crossed for us all!!

Hi!
I was wondering if someone here could tell me about the new merit rating system?

My first MR was 18.5 and now it's 14.9 (it changed a few days ago) i'm so confused 'cause i don't know how this affects for my chance to get in. I've applied to umeå university to study molecular biology.

I also sent an e-mail to university admission but haven't got an answer yet

Really?? Thats weird.. if its supposed to change, it should go higher. Now im worried. Are you an international student or you are from EU?

Posted by: errr20 11.Mar.2017, 11:44 AM

Hi bhadbwoy,
i'm from EU (Finland)

i only found this link https://www.uhr.se/om-uhr/nyheter/pressmeddelanden/2017/omvardering-av-utlandska-betyg-far-avsedd-effekt/ but it's all in swedish :--D

Anyway i guess i just need to wait the answer from university admission but damn i'm stressed out now

Oh, that's weird! I checked my account after reading your post and I saw that my points got lowered too – from 18.6 to 18.25 (possibly they've rounded something down, but why not 18.5 then?)

I'm generally a master's applicant, but as I'm trying to change my field, I'm prepared to study computer science on a bachelor's level for a year or so to get more required credits.
It's a bit weird to me that the rating isn't higher though, as I had really good grades in high school, all final exams passed on the advanced level, and then I have those courses in math, physics, etc. passed with highest grades on a university level; what do they need for 22.5 then!? I tried to read about selection groups, but it's very confusing wink.gif

I thought that only applied to the masters applicants.. and even with that it was supposed to go higher not lower.. well im from outside the EU so I wouldn't know how that works. University admissions are going to take a while before they reply. The universities themselves reply way faster.. i hope its just an error.. because from 18 to 14 is terrible.. it shouldn't change that much.. makes me wonder me, who already has a 16 rating, if i was going to be downgraded.. lool.. dont stress too much tho.. a few weeks more.. we will all be fine.. going to do a little more research and your situation tho. Because i have no idea

And from the link you posted, looks like their lowering foreign high school diplomas so they can be equal to the Swedish diplomas.. because the claim the people with Swedish diplomas are not having a fair assessment.. well i might be wrong tho

Posted by: errr20 11.Mar.2017, 02:01 PM

Yea actually i did some research and my new MR (14.9) is calculated right, according to their new system so it's not a mistake or anything. They are really making it harder for foreign students to get in.
But do i still have a chance, i mean if it's this much harder for people applying from Finland it must be as much harder for people applying anywhere else than from Sweden, right? This is just me trying to think if there's a hope or not

Yhh looks like it.. if they are doing this to you, then they will do it to everyone.. guess getting in this year will be harder for everyone.. lol now im stressed..

Does anyone know the exact time that the selection results will be out on March 31st? I checked the university admissions website, twitter and FB but there is no information about the time. On the threads from last year, many people said it was around 1 pm, but I am not sure if it will be the same this year. Does anyone know or is it too early?

Posted by: Ropucha69 12.Mar.2017, 06:50 PM

My merit rating has stayed the same. Still at 22.5 happy.gif
Unless I've completely misinterpreted the system, I guess I can start looking forward to Karolinska.

22.5?? Start looking for an apartment then. Lool.. mine hasn't changed either.. idk why some hav theirs changing are you in EU? That should also be a reason

Posted by: laabbellz 16.Mar.2017, 02:20 AM

Will there be some kind of email or notification about the decision time? I'm dying to know so that I can be on the portal at an exact time but don't want to bother university admissions with emails...Last year's info doesn't help since I get the impression that every year is different (i.e last year admissions results were out April 4th)

Ropucha69, are you slovak/czech? Your username means something in those languages, so I'm just wondering smile.gif

Posted by: laabbellz 26.Mar.2017, 03:39 PM

So true...Why isn't anyone adding posts? Let's live it up peopleeee!!

Also, I checked the masters thread and apparently their results were released at around 10 am, which is earlier than expected. Any chance it will be the same for us?

Lol i think so.. might get ours within that time.. or as late as 1(atleast thats the time they said they were going to release the masters results before it was released earlier.. guessing our account on university admissions will be locked soon.. maybe Wednesday.. really enjoyed the masters forum.. they were all together.. now they created groups and stuff together so they can know each other more before they all meet in different schools.. really nice.. guessing the bachelors doesn't have alot of people

Hi everyone, new user here!

I applied to KTH's ICT Bachelor's programme and was put on the waiting list with a Merit Rating of 18.46/22.5 (was 19.10 before the update).

Does anyone know how hard it is to get into the programme? Did anyone else apply to this programme?

One last question, does anyone know if in the Second Admissions Round the requirements usually go up? Or are they lower?

Thanks xD
