Ume? is Sweden's 11th largest municipality in terms of population, but in terms of density, well down the list at number 93. So it is difficult to meet people there.

Although it is the metropolitan area but Umea is a nice place to go. It is not bad to live because all kind of facilities are available there like education, health and transport.

We lived for about 6 or 7 years in Vaster Norrland, in a tiny forest-village/skogsbyn, near Junsele. I'm a retired UK lawyer, now an international freelance music journalist, so work mostly online with visits to Festivals/gigs/ launch parties etc.We visited Umea a few times. Agree with most comments. It's a pleasant city, big enough for all needed stuff but small enough to be attractive. The university has strong English-speaking links, as one would expect. The countryside around is also beautiful. Bishop pubs seem to profilerate in Sverige. I've certainly been in a few. Have a great time. We now live in France but are seriously considering a return to the Umea area, as it happens.
